I know there is already one poll on the DPF's.

Curious as to the results of this poll.

Also, if you could briefly describe if you do:-

a) Long/Short Journeys

b) Fuel Used (RON Rating if known)

c) MPG Driving Style or Spirited Driving Style

Voted no additives/no problems:

a) Mostly Long throughout its life, done some shorter ones recently, mixed with longer ones
b) Normal Diesel - had some BP ulitimate/equivalent but didn't notice any difference and it costs too much
c) Mostly whatever the traffic's doing, half and half I'd say. Although I don't hang around - I try not to do "pointless" spirited driving.

Fuel with respect to this poll

I have only covered 850 miles, but I know that this can be enough time to start seeing DPF warning lights. Mostly I cover short journeys, 5 miles each way way to work.

My driving style post IAM course is different to pre IAM course...I drive in 3rd at 30mph in town. Keeps rev's up, full engine response is ready if needed, keeps DPF hotter maybe? As for the rest, as quick as I can within the limit (always ready for an overtake if safe). As a side note, I would recommend IAM course for anyone. I considered myself to be a good driver, however it became clear during this course that I was not reading the road anywhere nearly as effectively as I could be.
Back to the point..............

As for fuel, I use Shell V power. It gives performance gains in a different way to BP ultimate. BP has a higher Cetane rating = bigger bang. V Power is slightly lower in Cetane rating and is produced by using gas to liquid technology. This process makes it very clean since impurities are lost in this process and used in an engine it will clean the fuel system. I would expect exhaust emissions to be cleaner also.

Supermarket fuel - remember the oxygen sensor fiasco a short while ago? Enough said.

Don't mean to hijack a thread, but if all the facts and variables are collected and analysed there may be clear data of note here.

On my FR, the DPF light came on 3 times in the first 1700 miles as I drive 1 mile to work (the car is safer here than on my street) and it wasnt really used much as I have a motorbike as well. Anyway, I now use the car more but mainly on a camera-infested A-road for 12 miles each way most days plus a weekend 4-way 25 mile motorway run. The car is only very occasionally driven hard. Im at 5000 miles with no DPF light since. I use Millers diesel additive with Tesco fuel and also, the car is remapped. I havent had the flash update done and wont be until the DPF light becomes a problem.

a) Mostly minimum of 35mile, the odd round towner but 95% m'ways

b) Sainsbury or morrison std stuff

c) A bit of both, week day commute = 45mpg +, weekends can see high 20's

I have had the DPF light come one once due to the sensor failing, which was replaced under warranty @ 19500 miles.

I was running shell v-power & millers sport + stuff when I 1st got her last october, but it was only £1.04ltr then, so now its cheap bogo stuff........who says diesel drivers are tight.

a) Long/Short Journeys

Mainly short. Occasional long journey (once a month)

b) Fuel Used

standard Shell diesel

c) MPG Driving Style or Spirited Driving Style

50/50 :)

No DPF problems and no additives.

mostly short jouneys and use redex most of the time, never had a problem with the dpf only time i see the light is when i turn it on...... touch wood!

Not ALL diesel driver Jace, just you :p

I use standard supermarket stuff with a squirt of millers :)

a) Long/Short Journeys.....................................Short

b) Fuel Used (RON Rating if known)..................Supermarket standard diesel

c) MPG Driving Style or Spirited Driving Style.....Both (37mpg)

8000 miles and the light has made an appearance once but 4miles at 70 cleared it.

12 mile commute each day half on motorway half through town. Ive had the acitve regeneration a few times but no DPF lights. done about 8k

usually esso or jet diesel.

Driving style = mixed depending on whether the recaro baby seat is empty or occupied!!

My FR went bang yesterday!

light came on, doing the usual drill, nice a-road at 1750 rpm around 50 mph in 4th, 20 min's all good again for another 3 months, or so i thought but this time it just wouldn't clear! THEN coil light starts flashing, DPF light on and Exhaust Emissions come on, glad seat-belts were invented and nobody went up my arse as the car engine braked from 50 to 30 and a total loss of power, only the first 25% of the pedal did anything, couldn't get revv's above 2500rpm, limped it home.

called dealer, they said to try the recovery again, tried for an hour on a nice constant 50mph a road, (it usually does the trick in normal conditions), nothing....dealers collected the thing with a tow truck yesterday morning.

Got a call today, they are having problems trying to manually regenerate it, and have tried some sort of software update but its still not clearing.

I have no courtesy car, and am basically f%£k'd work wise.

As i've had it since launch day, a shade over 2 years now, there is no question it has failed on driving styles, i've never gone to them before with this issue, but week 3ish I did have the sensor fail and have to be replaced, but I read the manual and have been good to action the regen when the normal dpf light comes on.

Fingers crossed i get the car back soon, my "off sick" approach to work will run out and start costing me there aswell.

From what i've read above, might be worth some additives from now on! only 1 year left on warranty, but it has to go before then...
