Hi Everyone
I'm Ian, and I've been perusing this forum anonymously for a while before registering. I initially came because I had fitted a dashcam, removing the glovebox to do so, and suffered the dreaded airbag light on the dash. My main dealer wanted £175plusVAT to turn it off, or quote for a new airbag.
Not a fecking chance.
I'm a software developer and an ECU is just another computer, so I decided to poke around and see what I could find. It took a few revisions, but I was able to read the ECU, then find the airbag module. That wasn't easy. My Leon has airbag module 5N0 959 655 R (J234). It answers at TP2.0 address 05, not the usual 15.
Once I cracked that nut, I was able to talk to the airbag module itself. It took an hour or two to decipher the handshake and all the code sent back and forth between my laptop and the airbag module, but once I had, it was relatively easy to program an app to turn the light off.
I am using a USB ELM327 v1.5a and the software is designed for that exact module. You can get them on ebay for about £5-10. It will not work with the bluetooth ELM327 clones which go for £2-3.
If you want to use it, you can have it free. Its on my website at:
ianwilliamsdesign.co.uk/SeatAirbagReset-v1.7.exe
or you can download it from my github:
Word of advice from a programmer - never EVER run an exe before you have run a virus check on it first. I guarantee this is fine, but none of you know me, and this is my first post here, so none of you should trust my word alone. RUN A VIRUS CHECK FIRST.
When you run it for the first time, it will detect your COM port the USB is connected to. Do NOT click the Connect button yet. First run BUS Test to make sure it can talk to your car. If that comes back successful (the status section at the top will tell you if it fails or not), then you can click Connect. It runs through its tests, and you'll see various lights go on and off on your dash, and a few beeps and dings here and there. Once connected click Read Faults. This will only read airbag faults - its not a general fault reader. Once read, you can clear the fault. The airbag light goes off, and after restarting the car, driving for a while, stopping and starting again a few times, it has stayed off.
Mine is a 2011 Leon 1.2TSI MK2, with ECU 03F 906 070 HD
And yes, I know you can do all this with fancier code readers, but I'm too cheap to buy them, and I already had the ELM327 (USB and a couple of bluetooth clones) because they all run in my Range Rover. I was also bored, and didn't want to give a main dealer any money.
If this helps someone, great, if not, it helped me.
Cheers
Ian
