Hi

I’m new to the forum and just took delivery of a new VZ3 a couple of weeks ago!

When setting your individual drive mode is there anyway when you switch off the car and restart it stays in the individual mode rather than having to choose that drive mode again .

Thanks

Unfortunately not. The earlier production cars do this but it changed over at some point so it acts in the same way as yours. It caused some confusion when people, myself included, asked the same question and others said that's how it worked and ours must therefore be faulty. :ROFLMAO: The reasoning is supposedly down to some emission rules, so it always starts in the normal mode, blah, blah, blah.

In my car (March 2021) it would stay in Individual mode (or any other mode) but it would default to D gearbox and keep the flaps closed. So on paper it looked like it was in Cupra while in fact it was not.

This means I always have to cycle through the modes if I want to enter true Individual or Cupra mode.

That was the case also in my previous VAG before the Formentor, apparently its fault that they dont bother fix for their own reasons, at least if it was to default to D, which is kind of reasonable, it should also display it.

It would display that the gearbox is in D, but the driving profile would show the last one selected (for example Cupra) but it would not be fully Cupra driving profile - the exhausts would not be open for example and the car would not pop and bang.

Mine, it was a new Polo, I would drive in Sport or Individual and when I would turn on the engine after a stop, it would still display Sport or Individual on the drive modes but actually it would be the standard Comfort mode and it would display on the instruments the D mode, talked to the dealer and as usual they were saying that this is the normal display function of VAGs. Didn't bother anymore, got used to it.

Engine and drivetrain settings are not retained between restarts. It is written in the manual.
Flaps stay open between restarts, but engine settings responsible for pops don't.

Yes, it may be written but what I'm wondering about is why the last driving profile is still retained on the driving modes selection screen and does not by default goes to Comfort which is the standard drive mode after restart! This is what puzzles me and not that it goes to standard mode.

Because you are not back on comfort. After restart you get a hybrid of comfort for engine and drivetrain and individual for the rest. So somplicated that even at VAG they didn't figure it out yet how to present it on the screen :ROFLMAO:

I think you'll find it depends on the car version/production date. Mine reverts to comfort on a restart and changes all settings so it is in proper comfort mode. So for example, if I was in Cupra and restart the car everything is back to comfort.

As does mine. UK manual even states the same, although the language isn’t the best:
When the engine is switched off it will store the driving profile that was selected when the ignition was turned off. When re- started, the engine and the gearbox will start in their Normal mode. To return the engine and gear to your desired mode, re- select the corresponding driving profile.
Would be much nicer if there were a timeout of sorts on it, much like the consumption since started thing. It gets old really quickly changing settings when you’re running around with multiple stops.

I have a VZ2 (310) and have the mode selector on the steering wheel. Mine also always reverts back to comfort on restart. However, if you press and hold the mode selector it puts the car straight into Cupra mode. Another press and hold cycles it back to the previous mode (normally comfort). To be honest, I only really ever use these two modes for 99.9% of driving. Comfort most of the time unless you want a quick overtake, then Cupra! Don't really even need to use any of the other modes.

It's nice to be able to have a better response without the crazy piped in sound, slightly stiffer suspension and better response to ACC that individual allows you to set. The problem is you have to go via sport and Cupra first which then also puts the gearbox into sport that you then have click back to D. This usually includes the passengers looking at you like you don't know how to drive with the revs shooting up, a V8 burble for a second and you frantically fumbling for the controls. :ROFLMAO: First world problems and all that.:)
