Good afternoon All

I will be looking to change me car next year currently have a 2014 Toledo 1.2 TSI and I am torn between another Toledo as the interior has now been spec'd to match the Leon with the media System being the 6.5" on Style + Style Advance.

TBH I'm very happy with the 1.2 TSI 105PS engine, Does everything I need, so I have been looking at the Leon SE and noticed that can have the 1.2 TSI DSG, but if I am going to go for a DSG I think I would want the Paddle Shift option,

My question is can the 1.2 get this option or is it only available on the FR 1.4 up. I would love a FR 1.8 TSI or Cupra, but I have to think Realistically for the money I can afford.

I'm only 25 started my new job 8 months ago due to a poor relationship with my previous employer I just wanted out so not on best £££ and other half is Self employed so that's not the biggest income earner as business has to be kept afloat,

What are people pro's and Con's for the Leon, I really like the styling of the Toledo IMO it looks like a higher end model car that it actually is.

TIA

Joe

The Paddle Shift is fun, but given how good the DSG box is (at least in the Cupra) you rarely want to use them. I've tried driving with them a few times now, and find it quite unnatural, I suspect if I did it more often I'd get better, but as I said I rarely feel the need.

Pros of the Leon, as this is my second (Previous was a TDI 150 FR Mk3) has to be the exterior styling for me, and a good finished interior, not sure what the interiors in the Toledo are like, make sure you consider your options when purchasing things like lane assist and adaptive cruise are things you must try before you'll really appreciate them.

Yeah ACC would get used pretty much daily for me and not available on Toledo but again it's watching costs but I'm going to go into my dealer to see what deals I may be looking at

I'm still not 100% sure on LED headlights Again need to try before.
I know what you mean using auto is so easy but I want that option for bits of fun
I'm used it is on the xbox wheel I have but I guess as the DSG is smooth guess don't use them as much but I'll need to play first I guess it's nice to have that option

I don't think that the 1.2 DSG does get the paddles, but this is reflected in the DSG upgrade price of £1,250, which is £100 less than for the bigger-engined models that do get the paddles.

Yeah that is what I was thinking

Thank you for your reply

Don't stress too much about the steering wheel paddles. We paid extra for the paddles on our 1.8 FR. I have only used them in the snow to force 1st gear for tackling icy downhill gradients. You can always use the gearstick to select gears manually.

The DSG itself is superb though. Wouldn't go back to a manual gearbox now. The LED headlights are another "must have" feature, IMHO.

I have a 184FR DSG and I use the paddles loads, mainly to pre-empt changing down for hills/corners/overtakes etc which no auto box can do so I would have them if they are available. The DSG 'box is great, (except for the badly chosen ratios you get with 1st, 2nd and 3rd on the 184).
Also, I think 1.2 has a 7 speed 'box, mine is a 6 speed.

Yeah the 1.2 is 7 speed dunno if that's better or not. My current is a 6 speed manual.
I will need to properly drive one and see how I get on with the DSG I have driven a conventional automatic astra so this will be a different experience but I'm sure if will make my journeys much more relaxed

The 7 speed is much quicker changing gear than the DSG6.

Paddles are handy but not essential as you can still do it via the gearlever quickly enough (having had one car with them and one without, but near identical engines).

I'm looking forward to trying the LED lights on Friday when mine arrives..
