Engine overheating at high speeds.

I have a MK3 2.0 TDI 184BHP Leon FR. The car overheats with temp going up to 115c when accelerating harshly or at speeds of 70MPH+ but comes back down to 90c when I slow down. There is also a burning smell coming from the coolant tank.

The water pump and cambelt was changed a few months ago and I have changed the heater matrix a couple of weeks ago but the problem persists.

I have had a specialist look at the car and they think it could be the head gasket or EGR cooler but are not exactly sure.

They have advised me to sell the car but I have only owned it for 4 months. Have any of you guys had any similar issues?
