Whats actually gone?

New cam belt (3 k miles) stripped some teeth causing valves to bend. Thus low compression and engine to conk out on a hot lap!

Spoken to an expert on these engines and he reckons it's something to do with wear in the cams or something that caused enough drag to strip teeth on cam belt.

Car has done 106k miles but a lot of them flat out on various tracks.

This problem is quite common im told.

My car is now being recovered from germany and when home im looking at a reconditioned cylinder head ( gas flowed for 9 bhp according to jabba).

Cost:headhurt:

well, when they strip the belt its normally becuase of a drop in oil pressure which slows the cams or melts them in place, was your oil low?

Is you belt not covered under warrenty?, mind you it didnt snap it stripped.

The used to be a place on ebay that sold oil test engines really cheap and they came with a full warrenty although you can get cylinder heads cheap enough now.

Oil level fine ( it uses 1/2 liter every 10k miles)

Because i have a few mods to the engine i think a re con head will be best and cheaper plus im having it gas flowed.

BTW the SEAT dealer wanted over 3k for a new engine:whistle:

Find a later ARL and remap and get a FMIC if you aint had one fitted as a mod yet ?

Saying that, in standard engine wise i prefered my old Bora 130 drive over the 150 Leon LOL

Hope you get something sorted

Legendary! How many laps do you think?

Poor car... :D

Had the car from new in August 03 and do an average of 3-4 trips a year doing an average of 12 laps per visit so that = about 294 laps or just under 4 k miles.
Have done more laps than this in other cars and my Yammaha R1 back in 1999.

Thanks for that info but im going to buy a reconditioned cylinder head and have it gas flowed as that's worth 9 bhp according to jabba sport.
The car has all the usual stuff such as hybrid turbo ,FMIC ,miltek, eibach coilovers ect ect.
My car should be home after a tour of germany on the back of a lorry in 15 days.

Yes i've had my moneys worth ok but there plenty of life in the old dog yet.

With a bit of TLC and and wad of cash i'll be back at the ring next month for more action plus i need to finish the lap that i broke down on ( it would be rude not to):)
