Engine Will Not Start (Tick Over) - All Lights Working?

I have not used my Seat Ibiza Mk2 (facelift) (mk3?) 2001 for two weeks now. It has always been regularly serviced and has never caused me any problems in the past.

Tonight I went to turn the ignition and nothing. You can't hear the engine trying to start.
All the exterior and interior lights turn ON and are fully bright. The EPC and airbag lights are also ON. Although the radio will not play, despite its LCD being lit-up (I've checked volume).

However, the moment the ignition is turned further to start the engine, all the lights fade away.

Any ideas what may be the cause of this?

its been moved because if your car is a 2000-2002, it's classed as a mk3

it sounds like it needs a jump start and the battery just needs abit of a charge but it could be a bad earth or bad connection to the battery

so check your connections first, failing that get a jump or bump it down a slope, i expect one of these to solve it

It's classed as a mk3 on this forum due to the year of manufacture, but by Seat it's classed as a Mk2 facelift, correct?

I do hope you are right :). Is there anything else it could possible be judging by the information I know and have provided?

possibly, although i'm 99% certain it says mkIII on my manual:confused:
but I've always regarded it as the mk3 even before i joined up, i understand where your coming from though

it could also be a very bad starter motor but since its just been left standing, presuming it worked before this, the info you've given almost certainly points to just needing abit of a jump to get it going again

someone else might be able to think of another possible cause but I'm pretty sure thats all it is

It may be that on his owner manual it was one of the very early mk2-mk3 crosses so they could of refered to as mk2 faclift has to start somwhere i guess...

I was going to say starter moter but if the lights are just fading as he discribes it when he tries to start it just sounds like theres not enough power in the battery

also while i think of it try the connections on the batt one may be loose could cause the same effect...

As I'm parked on a one way (very) narrow residential road, I may see if I can borrow a battery charger from somewhere first. Failing that, I'll just block the road off for a couple of minutes with a donor car.

I'll report back with my findings later this evening :).

battery only has a lifespan of about 3-5 years anyway...so could well make sense.

btw, TCS and ABS light are always on on startup.

Jump started about an hour ago and powered up first time :). Left it running for about 20min reving every now and again (neighbours must have thought I was a right chav haha!).

Will go for a driver later today after rush hour. Is it worth getting the battery tested (I imagine this would be done at the usual places such as Kwik-Fit and would be chargeable)? Or just replace the battery right now? If the latter, what battery would you guys recommend?
