hi everyone i took my car to the local car wash earlier today and whilst having my car washed i turned the engine off(hand car wash not automated type)and after cleaning paid the guys washing it and started car and drove off.now im not sure if the light was on straight away or not but noticed it on after about 1-2 mins max.i have tried turning on/off in car also disconnected battery but light still on.checked breaking as i thought initially it was the abs but this ok and after checking handbook realizes it was to do with traction which i noticed it does wheelspin without any intervention from the trac control/esp?
does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem.the carwash could just have been a co-incedence but wondered if there was a wire or something whilst they were jetwashing aroung wheel area?
any help would be gr8 thanks daz.

if only it were just that lol.
must admit this did cross my mind but surely when u turn engine off and back on it resets?
also as said b4 ive disconnected battery and still on?

hi there sounds like brake presure sensor fault which i think is inside the abs unit i think the sensor is called a g201? you can change the sensor on the mk1 but not on mk2 if that is definitely the fault you can send the abs ecu away for repair .

hi thanks everyone for your reply,
just sent a message to seat customer care as only 2 mths ago had the problem with the dreaded injectors and these were replaced foc.
i can't believe the bad luck i have had with this car in such a short space of time.real shame because i love the car but in all my time of driving never had these kind of problems with previous cars which makes me doubt the reliabilty/build etc.
anyway im hoping for a reply from seat now although i may have jumped the gun slightly because i haven't had time to get it diagnosed properly yet but i just know it's going to be the most expensive thing it could be.
will try and get it diagnosed early nxt week to confirm and just hope seat offer some kind of goodwill like with the injectors.Cars got full dealer history and i was thinking of trading the wifes lancia itergrale for a new cupra untill now,not so sure.
thanks darren

Hi,

Got the same fault on mine. This is apparently an MOT fail, since you wouldn't be aware of an ABS failure since the light is already on.

Seat won't do a goodwill on mine since I don't have FSH with Seat.

Made me wonder whether getting VOSA involved would force Seat to sort this dodgy component out once and for all, since it is a safety concern.

But since the esp light is constantly lit, I won't know if my ABS subsequently fails as it uses the same light to warn you of a fault. This was the argument my garage gave me when they told me it was an MOT fail.

Having said that, once it is fixed I will be mostly driving with the esp switched off, since I hate the aggressive wheel hop it causes. While I have been driving with it failed, I have been able to detect the onset of loss of traction and compensate by easing off on the accelerator. A much smoother driving experience. :)

from the manual, about the ESP light ' it will also come on if a fault should occur in the ABS because the ESP operates in conjunction with the ESP'

although the manual says there is an ABS light in addition to this.

so are they pulling a fast one to get some work, or will it genuinely fail the MOT if not fixed?

Hi I had this light come on newyears eve.
Took the car to the dealers today they plugged it in and confirmed that the ABS pump was at fault.
They have quoted me £750 ish for the unit and 5 hours labour at £90 per hour all plus VAT not going to get much change from £1,400 :censored:.
Thank god i have warrenty that i got with the car when i bought it second hand from SEAT i'm all covered.:funk:

That's a load of rubbish. Definately the pressure sensor. Seat have a repair kit which is I think £150 ish. I should know, Iv changed 4 in the last 2 months

My mk2 sport Stylance had the same problem late last year too! Took the car for a new cv boot and they managed to get a refurb unit for 40quid with fitting around 30! Was so lucky to get this at that price like, so I guess it's best to really shop around a lot of garages as prices vary a lot!

I know about the repair kit but they are replacing the whole unit under warrenty so i'm not going to argue with them :D

The ABS and TCS/ESP are two different systems and do not cut each other of in certain circumstances if there is a fault.

An abs fault causes the tcs or ESP to deactivate but the abs can work as normal if an ESP/tcs fault occurs.

The ESP and tcs are also 2 completely different error lights.

As said above - currently abs light fails the mot, tcs/ESP will fail when the new regs come in in April.

We repair the pumps for £300 posted or £400 on site, fitted.

Dealers are often forced to replace the whole unit as oppose to the repair kit which is now £200+ vat.

It's common across the range and we change 4+ a week although we don't charge 5 hours labour as they can be boxed off on an hour.
