Maybe a foolish question but..

The button say ESP off but when pressed the light comes on?

does this mean with the ESP light on its off or it is off when there is no light showing on the dashboard?

Thanks:help:

As standard, the ESP is always on. If you press the button, the button and the light on the dashboards lights up, which means it is disabled.

Have you read the manual???

Iv got the cupra, does turning the esp off make a difference? Im not one for flying round corners, but il certainly fly in a straight line lol.

What kinda difference does it make?

Playing around with the car is part of the fun of a car!

Im not sure if turning off the ESP in a Cupra will make so much difference, but with the FR+DSG box, it is a part of setting up the Launch Control setting, hence making the FR quicker.

ESP makes a massive difference, a few of us were lucky enough to go on the free SEAT track day last autumn and part of that focused on driving with and without ESP.

You tend to lose traction very quickly without ESP on.

We were also told that pressing the button doesn't 100% disengage the ESP. It will still kick in on the absolute limit.

I'm a man, a real man and I have never read a manual ever, end of!

I would rather fart about for hours trying to sort something out than read a manual, it is a sign of weakness and defeat!

:lol::lol:

And after farting about for hours, resorting to asking a basic question like that on a public forum isn't a sign of weakness and defeat?

Or a sign that you are too dim to look for the information in the one place it will be?!

ESP is on as default - with no lights.
When you press the button it turns it off and lights up on the dash as a warning that its disabled! (when i say disabled you will probably find that he traction control is off and the ESP is less intrusive but still there in the background).

In my opinion those that routinely turn off the ESP when they get in the car are just playing with fire. Why turn off something that could save your bacon?
Ok, so i can understand why people would turn it off now and then when they want a 'drive' but the fact is when you are driving along normally and something catches you out unaware this is when it is a fantastic bit of kit that would make the difference!
Most people are not aware what it can do.

esp off means more power...just try it...

Turning off the ESP does not mean more power. It may feel quicker especially pulling out of slow turns simply as the traction control is not cutting in. However you will get through your tyres quicker.

The only thing that may slow you down is the ESP if you are driving too fast for public roads and so is usually turned off on track days and the like. But this is nothing to do with power.

Spot on Andy, that confirms what I was told about how it works.

If you turn it off for day to day use you're mad. ESP is a amazing piece of kit.

To be honest you probably go faster with it on as you are less likely to lose traction, which is wasted power.

I appreciated what ESP did before I went on the track day, but during that day became amazed at the difference it made. The amount of over and under steer it eliminates in different situations is amazing amongst other things.

When I had my 350z there was a US forum I frequented. There were loads of posts from 19 - 22 year olds (petrol and insurance must be so much cheaper!) along the lines of "I just totalled my Z" or, my favourite "I just went backwards across 6 lanes of traffic on the Freeway"...

In almost every case, the chump had switched off the Nissan equivalent of ESP because they thought they were either a better driver than it was or they thought they got more power...

Go figure.

An ex of mine worked in an old peoples home for a while, apparently the Fybrogel didn't always do the trick so in that context a manual involved a bowl of warm soapy water a pair of rubber gloves and a strong stomach!!!!!

 thanks for that Gary...

I had a conversation with someone on here a while back about ESP.... he was a 19-21 y/old who drove with ESP off because he was a brilliant driver who had been racing for years and he said it was his choice....

I think i replied that i was glad i didnt live near him as i wouldnt want my son/daughter/mother etc standing at a bus stop as he plouged through it!

I think he drove a remapped Cupra, 300+bhp, anyway with the price of petrol and tyres maybe he drives a Ge-Wizz now anyway!

All I can say is once or twice ive almost lost the back end due to a wet road going around a few deceiving corners and the ESP kicked the back end back in and saved they day..

Definately a lot faster round corners with ESP off. Even more so in the wet.
Had constant wheelspin at 70 a few weeks ago. (private road etc).
