Excessive tyre wear - 1.4tsi FR?

Hi,

I am thinking about changing the tyres on my 1.4tsi 150 FR (18" titanium wheels) from the woeful bridgestone s001s which were supplied by the factory.

After 7,500 miles in 6 months, I am a bit surprised that I am needing to think about changing rubber already. The front tyres are down to 3mm on the outside and 4mm on the insides. Rears are at 5mm across the board - is this normal wear considering the car's performance etc?

Choices for new tyres are between goodyear efficentgrip and michelin pilot sport 3/4 - any suggestions or recommendations here?

I know it's a different model, but the Cupra came on Bridgestones ( shite) and were at the limit at 9k. Replaced with Goodyear Asymetric 2's which have lasted twice as long.

I have had Goodyear Asymetric 2's on my 1.4tsi for over a year now with no problems. Ive probably covered about 10k.

I am fairly careful when putting the foot down to try and minimise tyre wear but on my previous Ibiza i'd have been lucky to get a year out of front tyres so im well pleased with the Goodyears!

My 1.8 tsi FR, also 18 inch wheels, came with Continentals and they are only just getting ready for changing after 3 years at 24k. Even now I still have 3mm on the outsides and 3.5mm towards the centre, my rear tyres are also 5mm. I don't know why they have lasted so long as I don't think I've driven any more carefully than in the past. On my two previous cars both FR tdi and before that VW Golf tdi I have usually got between 12 and 15k oit of my front tyres. Previously I've had Goodyear or Pirrelli but never had Continentals before. I'm absolutely amazed and don't understand why they have lasted so long.

Had the same on mine for about a month now. I have got to say I can understand why people praise them. Car seems a lot better in the wet and general driving,tyres don't seem to spin up as easy as the previous ones

Every set of conti's I've had have lasted an age. Good for your pocket but in terms of performance they're not the best.

I would personally recommend Michelin Pilot Sport 4. Buy the tyres online and get them delivered somewhere and then have them fitted, as that'll save you a lot of money as well.

At 8,000 miles my P7s still had 6mm left. I rotate the wheels front to rear every 12 months.

Got a ST FR ACT on 17" P7s. 19000 mile service a couple of weeks ago, fronts down to 3mm, rears down to 6mm. OP's wear is ridiculous.

Agreed - I was down to 3mm on the fronts on mine at 18,5k (service) and that's the Dunlops it came with from the factory. Just about to hit 22k and they still aren't quite down to the treadwear indicator (but are pretty close now).

15600 miles driven and my factory equipped Conti SportContact 5 has 3mm on front and 5-6mm on the back.
Very happy with them, great grip wet and dry, and very responsive, better than Michelin PilotSport 3 at my previous 1P Leon.
I'm considering to get new set of Conti SC6 when they get them 18"
