FR 184 post remap MPG reading.

My 2015, 184 FR is getting a custom remap on Monday from a reputable technician.

I have a question regarding the on-board MPG readings. Will my on-board computer calculations be less accurate post remap? If say my MPG readings improve, will this actually be the case? I've read some stuff on another forum for an alternative brand who suggest that the readings lose accuracy post remap.

Can't see how it will be showing incorrect reading after a map. I would assume they will be genuine figures give or take a slight %

My old alfa 159 common rail diesel read over enthusiastic mpg reading after a custom remap. It was something to do with fooling the ecu into sending more fuel pulses than it thought it was providing. Not sure how remap works on the 184 or any diesel for that matter. I remember querying enthusiastic mog reading with the alfa specialist who did the custom map.

It will over read more than it does with the standard map. You can correct the reading to an extent with ODBeleven but it will vary a lot with your driving style. The new map will concentrate on more power at full throttle and (probably) leave the the small throttle openings pretty much standard.
I've had cars that give better mpg after a remap if driven carefully, but never live up to the dash figures.

Why not just do a full tank to full tank refill and use a calculator to work out the true MPG and compare that to the dash display - then at least you will know how accurate it is.

I do 510 miles a week in my FR 184 DSG, i have been playing around to see how the consumption reacts to driving style and temperature.

On a full tank i get the following

At 65 MPH = 525 miles with 2 litres of fuel left in the tank (only did this test once)
At 70 MPH = 495/505 miles with 3/4 litres left over in the tank
At 80 MPH = get 475/480 miles with 4 litres left over in the tank

- All test were done using shell fuel (95 Octane) and filled at the same pump with 2 clicks
- Temperature seems to make a massive difference, When above 9 degrees from a cold start the engine temperature hits 95 degrees within 8 miles. Whereas when at 1-3 degrees it would take 11 miles to get the engine to 95 degrees

. this weeks i obtained 530 miles from 1 tank doing 75-80 mph all week (lot warmer). I have only had my car for 5 weeks so still early stages but would be a great investment for my self if i could get better mpg from a remap

Hope this helps

Collected the car around an hour ago. The remap is excellent, as a 184 I thought it was awesome to start with, now it is doubly awesome.

The car is reporting improved MPG via the on-board comp. overall I'm delighted.

So was it a "night and day" difference?

Performance and power delivery

I have to say that I didn't expect it to be night and day as the 184 packs a punch but it most certainly is on all fronts, power and economy (based on a hour long journey).

It might report better mpg, but I'll doubt it does, The increased power doesn't come from nowhere. I'd like to see some before and after real tests

Ive had all my diesels remapped and the fuel is never accurate - even from factory !
My new 184- less than 3 weeks old managed a whole 380 miles on a tank full - motorway and urban combined ! But its new and running in !
My old 14 plate 184 - mapped to 230bhp - ran like a hairy bear - but on average - town running 42mpg - motorway 48 mpg sticking to 70 mph of course ;)
It was a chalk and cheese difference in performance - so much more fun !
But as an add on - as much as the xdf diff works very well compared to previous leons - i killed a set of continental 5 sport tyres in 12K miles -the second set vanished at 19K -only on the front - the rears were original contis and lasted the full 22k miles before i just exchanged it .
But forget about the cost - its all about the fun - and boy - does it make it fun to drive ! :D

If you want the grin factor -Its a no brainer ! :)
I had a 2.0 litre petrol - and it drank fuel - hence why i moved to turbo diesel in 1997 .
Ive never looked back - the torque and boost with a re-map - is equal to petrol but with less consumption in my opinion - But having made that statement - maybe I need a new thread with the 280/290 cupra guys .
My car cant put down the power without tearing the tyres off - so what happens on a 290 ?
Any opinions welcome !
Thoughts please ?:D

My first piece of advice on a remapped diesel - dont ever buy cheap tyres !! :D
Im sure Ill get shot down by other members but really - the conti sport 5s or the bridgestones s001s are the only ones in my experience that will grip ,wet or dry, with the extra torque.
Ive tried cheap ones - they really arent worth the saving made ( and shred in 200 miles !)
As said before - my original 184 was mapped to 230 bhp . After driving it - an absolute animal - but impractical really - just span the tyres off it with the xds diff just killing them.
After much tooing and frowing - I settled at 210bhp driving in the seat drive profile 'normal'.
This gave it oomph when normal driving - and if i wanted to be silly - sport mode was 'just nuts'.
Apart from that - nothing to add - service as normal- mine was on extended 20k service interval-but the car learns itself and demanded a service at 16K due to driving style !
No problems with the main stealers - they did it with no questions .
The clutch in the 184 is the same as the 280 as was - and is more than capable of transferring the power and torque.
All I can say is I miss my old 184 -my new one - Im being far too kind too at the moment -its only done 380 miles - when it reaches 1000 its off to the vets for the reverse of a male cat treatment !
Enjoy it ! its bags of fun !
Oh - and dont turn off the traction control unless your in a big space where you cant do any damage - its fun - dont get me wrong - but on a roundabout on a dual carraigeway - it will damage you !! ;)
