Can someone please shed some light on this situation, had my car in the garage today for a gearbox seal and asked him to change the arb bushes aswell as I've had a knock for a while which I'm trying to diagnose, changed droplinks, top mounts and springs and the noise is still there so arb bushes were next.
I received a phonecall saying that he couldn't buy bushes alone and the anti roll bar comes as a full kit, I thought it was a joke as I've seen updated powerflex bushes on the internet so I rang dealers and tps myself and it turns out it's true.
Has anyone changed these or the anti roll bar? Is there a mod or a way to retrofit new bushes?
The knock comes when driving over uneven road, doesn't do it when turning, like I said I've changed all of the above but still no joy, car is in for MOT in a couple of weeks so he said he will have a good look over it then even though it's passed 2 MOT's with this noise now, albeit not as bad the first time round but last time it wasn't much better than it is now.
I've read some stories of people having this knocking noise and never diagnosing it, I've even wondered if it could be something under the bonnet hitting a body panel or the chassis, I know I've put up with it for a while but it's really doing my nut now, I want it sorted.

Thanks

Car is an 07 FR TDI.

Sorry if it's no use but check your engine cover.. Mine was making a knocking noise on bumpy ground when it was loose .

Good luck with diagnosis if this don't help.

Check the subframe bolts and the Steering Rack Ends for play. i have had the same kock but only over small bumps at low speed. Sounds 100% like a drop link but isnt. Well annoying

It's deffo not engine cover, I don't have mine on hahaha.

You sound like you have the same knock as me, I've checked everything except the steering rack as I've read too many stories saying different ways to check it and I don't want to break it. I hope it's not that as it's even more pricey than the roll bar. How long has yours been going on for?

I think I'm gonna give those a shot myself, hopefully that could be the cure for the problem.
Would these be a pain in the backside to fit yourself?

update

Got the kit but havent had time to fit it. As a matter of interest i torqued the subframe bolts tonight. Passenger side were solid, but the two main rear bolts (the ones the kit replace) were loose. not mega loose, but got a good half a turn on them. Took it for a drive tonight and the knocking has gone. You can do this with the car on the ground.

Im gonna take the bolts out and fit the kit tomorrow so hopefully that will be the end of the mystery knocking that the last three garages have not been able to find.

Incidently, the turn in seems to be a lot more direct as well. could just be placebo effect though. fingers crossed.

The roll bar and bushes do come together as one piece and the bushes have a steel sleeve pressed around them. bushes are available and sold by many polyurethane companies but in order to fit them you have to grind the sleeves off and use nuts and bolts to refit them and they are not a 5 minute job, if the sleeves don't come off then the roll bar has to be removed to have them fitted.

Funnily enough I was under my car cleaning all the oil off the bottom after my gearbox leak and I had a good feel to see if anything was loose but I never even though of trying to tighten the bolts up, will do that today, I've ordered the kit from awesome but they rang me and said they were out of stock and awaking a delivery from ecs and I should get the kit at the start of May .

Thanks MJ, that was exactly what was confusing me, being able to buy uprated bushes but how to fit them. Think I'll just stick with standard for now and try the kit first.

Just order them from tps. I just paid £18 for the shims and the bolts plus the two outer bolts as well. Will put the part numbers up later.

I've already ordered them from awesome and he rang me after I had placed the order to tell me I won't get them until May.

I have a knocking from my front left over bumps at a slow speed. Will check bolts for tightness. Could you tell me which the subframe ones are that I need to look out for? Have you got a picture or location of them please?

Cheers
