Front mud flaps and a warning!

I decided to fit some front mud flaps to my ST FR Eco tsi 150.

Didn't think the oem ones were worth £40 a pair, but just got some at less than half that,I suppose with it being an obsolete model dealers are now selling off surplus stock to eBay traders.

Anyway, the first stage in fitting is to remove two screws that hold the bottom of the plastic wheel arch liner in place. You can then bend back the liner and I was surprised to find a handful of mud that had somehow got behind it and was sitting in the open end of the metal sill...not good for that area staying rust free in the future!

So I cleaned it out (same both sides) and the flaps were fitted easily enough, and will tend to keep mud out of that area in future,so,whether fitting flaps or not,I would advise others to keep an eye on this area.

Oldbutswift, I think that what you found is indeed a timely bit of advice for everyone to take on board, another should be to drop the plastic side covers. All this pertains to more than the Ibiza or even just SEAT, I have just had the front wheel arch liners off my 2011 Audi S4 and glad I did. Also, I'm in the middle of replacing the front springs on my daughter's late 2009 Ibiza SC and I've needed to apply quite a lot of Waxoil, I did not expect to need to do that, thought SEAT would have already applied enough wax during production!

Thanks for advice, I'll check that area of the wheel arches on mine. You've got me thinking about fitting mud flaps now! My first 'mod' to my ST was going to be fitting a front armrest but I've decided I can live without that comfort feature. Mud flaps would be a better investment methinks, especially with my wife's regular route to work passing by two different new housing developments that have just started out.

I fitted front and rear mudflaps to our ST and front ones to a customer's 5door hatch. Both around 4 years old at the time. I couldn't believe how much mud was in there. I filled a large metal turkey roasting tray with the crud from both sides.

Talking about turkeys, I have a couple of my very own turkey basters for use in the garage, handy for blowing dust out of places if I've ran out of air duster cans! Also maybe for removing some liquids.

Wife will never ever get a loan of them! I've been lucky enough to find some old roasting trays being disposed of by my wife and I've started re-purposing them as "tool totes" while working in the garage - I think that the original plan was to use them for washing parts in, but they have not made it that far yet!

Super late reply, but I just discovered the mud issue on my 09 Ibiza a couple of weeks ago. Had the car on jack stands changing the droplinks only to get bored and take off those two screws, and this is how much dirt came out! Definitely something to watch out for, as some of the earlier 6J models are getting to the age where rust can become an issue.
