my fans used to work as should - slow speed with ac on and sometimes high speed if sat in traffic for ages, i used to reguraly check the slow speed fans because seeing how common the fault was. recently noticed the a/c cycling on the high speed fans only, and surprize surprize the no longer run on slow speed.

Before i go and order the fuses etc and repair them, am i right in thinking the high speed fans has a fuse on top of the battery....does the slow speed fans have a fuse there too?

im going to unplug the radiator thermoswitch and link the connections (as per video on youtube) to test the slow speed and high speed fans....but im fairly sure im going to have to do the resistor repair.

Fan control box connection diagram, showing all the fuses I know of.

Fuse positions are labelled as follows in the electrical diagrams (standing in front of the car, going from left to right), first the flat screwdown metal strip fuses

Code:
S177	110A	Alternator
S176	110A	Interior
S164	40A	Radiator fan
S163	50A	Engine Glow Plugs
S162	50A	Coolant Glow Plug Heater

S162 is not present on my car: I think the coolant heater glow plugs are only fitted as part of the winter kit for cold-weather countries, along with heated washer jets and headlamp washers.

The plugin blade fuses are

Code:
S180	30A	Radiator Fan
S179	30A	ABS
S178	30A	ABS (pump)

Cheers mutley, i knew you would come up trumps!

Iv still got to try linking contacts on rad thermoswitch as per vids on youtube, to me thats the definite test. If i get time i might put together a checklist to do before wirring in resistors, but iv got to find time to wire the resistors first!

I was going to buy new fans because of this issue with mine, seems to be a fairly common issue.

Iv just bought a second hand set for £40 (pair) from a Leon Cupra which work fine but they dont fit my Cupra R :( so going to be selling them on if they could help someone or returning them.
