My Garmin unit is purchased 2nd hand, the original one never came with the car it got lost for what ever reason.
Since getting the Garmin unit I have been on a bit of journey with it. Initially it turned on, connected to my phone, played media, shows maps etc. Then it stopped working, it was on its original 12 year old battery, I replaced it. The unit powered on and the screen was fine. But it wouldn't get any data from my car like revs, engine temperature, fuel economy information, that kind of thing so I thought maybe I could register it to my car for that stuff to work.
When connected to the dock in the car using the bracket it makes this sound every second repeating like a tapping or clicking. I have made a short video https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RP0JTSTWjHPyoOZD-dGuNHkw_EdOQ80j/view?usp=drivesdk to demonstrate. For clarification, this sound happened before I tried to register the unit to my car so it's not through something I have done.
Ideally I'd like to test with another dock bracket which connects to the car if I could rule out if the car has a fault if the sound is still present when I use a different bracket, or if my bracket is broken if it works with a different bracket. Trouble is I don't know anyone with one of these cars to ask and I don't want to trouble random people in supermarket car parks asking to borrow their stuff lol
Where things get a bit complex now is that I followed a guide which shows you how to rebrand and register the the unit to a different car than original. I followed the guide through and entered my own car vin number thinking it might help make it easier to connect. But now I am stuck at the screen here where the unit is asking me which car I am connecting to which I would like to press automatic and the Garmin unit will auto detect the details to my car and find the correct settings for data etc.
The unit or cradle or car are not all detecting each other correctly and I'm stuck on this screen with the tapping or clicking sound and the device is pretty much unusable because it's not being registered as being attached to the car.
Just for clarification the tapping sound was present before I registered the unit to my car using my own vin - I thought that it might help stop the sound registering to my car if there was some sort of compatibility thing as it was previously registered to its former owner.
