Going to test drive a FR TFSI DSG

Looking forward to this

My local dealer has their demonstrator in and I have it for a couple of hours today (not doing the 24 hour thing, this is a more low key test).

Don't get me wrong, I love my TDI Leon but there is part of me that really misses petrol and the longer rev range. I almost hit the redline in my TDI all too often.

Will report back my experience when i get back at lunchtime

Had my TDI DSG for 18 months now. Best thing I ever did.

Ok.. back from the drive.

Absolutely love it. The DSG is as smooth as butter. Stick it in drive and pootle around. Very leisurely. So simple to just brake at lights and in traffic. Put foot on brake, take foot of brake.. car gently nudges forwards, put foot down. Easy as hell. I love autos of this caliber!

Stick it into sport, it runs the redline, changes down when you boot it. Utterly amazing! No way could a human change gear that lightening quick. It's staggering just how good it is.

The TFSI engine pulls very well too. More linear power delivery, less urgent feeling than the TDI but I can see how it would beat a TDI off the lights. Beautiful exhause note at the redline!!!

Would I have one? Hell yes but the fuel economy is utterly terrible! I had it down to 8mpg solid on a motorway blast

I got offered a great deal on a brand new one but I have decided to abstain. The fuel economy and needing to find 5k when I am just moving into a new house, no can do.

Now if they put a DSG into the FR TDI.. my I think Id struggle to not trade over!

I chose the DSG gearbox in my TDI Sport.

LOVE IT!


My friends just cant grasp how good it is, speed of gear changes/smoothness/etc

I test drove the Edition 30 DSG today and while i wasn't looking fwd to it i have to say it was brilliant,drive it like a lazy sod or slip into (S) and woosh your in red line territory OR use the paddle shifters and its like driving with a playstation.well done VW.
