Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone has experience with this new engine? I have the 1.6 105bhp at present and will more than likely change to the new 1.2 next. I was wondering if the engine is any good? Also if you have ESP on the car do you get rear discs rather then drums? The brochure says drums but the older brochure says all cars with ESP have rear discs.

Cheers for any help

Ian

I've got a 1.2 tsi on order so am interested in response too.

All I can say is that current brochure seems a bit confused. Says 1.2tsi come with disc on front, drums at back but sizes it lists match 1.4tsi on FR/C/CB which is discs all round

It is an awesome little engine, really goes well. Don't think you will be disappointed.

The 1.2tsi has ESP/Electric slip-dif as standard btw

Edit- that may only be true on manual- my mistake

As techie says, it's an awesome engine!

I got my 1.2TSI late October last year, it came with rear discs as standard. At the time, the brochure stated that ESP was only standard on models with Start/Stop, which was the 1.2TSI manual and the 1.2TDI Ecomotive. XDS was also standard if the engine power was >100ps.

We have a 1.2 Tsi and it does come with discs on the back and seems to be a pretty good engine so far, seems to need a bit of revving from the start but once going its very eager upto the speed limit ;)

The start/stop feature takes a little getting used to not used to taking the car out of gear at the lights.

I have a 1.2 SE 5-dr on order. I tried to fathom the rear brake disc/drum issue and concluded that the 2010-printed brochure was wrong. The local dealer agreed. I think the the correct story for 5-door and SC versions is that cars with over 100 PS have rear discs and that the others have rear drums.

As I understand it, for some strange reason the start/stop versions have ESP and the others don't which means that the manual 1.2 TSI cars have ESP and the DSG versions don't. This in turn means that the DSG option is not perhaps quite as inexpensive as it looks since for a true comparison you need to add in the cost of ESP, which also includes tyre pressure monitor, hill start assist and XDS (and you don't get stop-start and regeneration either).

BTW, XDS is VAGs version of Torque Vectoring Control which Ford are introducing on the new Focus. AFAIK the Ibiza 1.2 TSI is the least expensive car offering it.

Hello rolandho,

I'm sorry I should have said that I was writing about UK cars. I believe that here, ESP is an option with the exception of cars with stop-start and more powerful FR and Cupra models.

Mine (5 door manual sport) has disc rear brakes but no ESP. I ordered it at the end of October, collected at the end of Jan.

When i washed my car at the weekend it was the first time I noticed the disc brakes! It's a great engine to drive; quiet when cruising on the motorway but makes a nice sound when you push it!

How much did they tell you it would take? I was told 2 months but I'm hearing all kinds of stories where people waited much more with different manufacturers.

I was guaranteed mine would be here before xmas but it didn't turned up until about the 25th of Jan. The worse thing is that I wasn't told about the delay until I phoned up just before Xmas to arrange collection!

I finally got mine yesterday and apart from the dealer forgetting the ipod cup adapter and giving the car the worst attempt at polishing I have ever seen on a new car everything else seems to be very good. I'm still not sure if I should accept the offer of a full valet to rectify the crap initial job or just do it properly myself.

My car has the rear disks, ESP with hill hold etc and stop start which is very odd and I think will take a while to get used to.

As for the engine, only done 30 or so miles yesterday but it feels good so far, nice low end pull for such a small engine, will be interesting to see how it goes once it's run in.
