HELP!! Rear brake lights stuck on while headlights are on!

Hi all please be gentle long time lurker first time poster!. My car for some very odd reason has the brake lights stuck on while I have the headlights on, But work as normal while the headlights are off, with the exception of when I press the brake pedal down the passenger side headlight comes on. I've taken off the dash and checked the brake light switch (disconnected it and put the headlights on and the brake lights still come on), checked and cleaned the bulbs, tried running an extra earth from the battery to the body.. and none of the above does anything so i'm a bit stumped now! Any help would be appreciated cheers folks!

Have you checked the earths at the light clusters? While the chassis might be earthed properly, if the earth straps from the bulbs aren't connected properly then things can go a bit odd.

Will a faulty brake pedal switch cause this , remember i got this once on my lcr but never did anything on mine so i cant really say for defo, maybe worth vagcom'in though

Disconnect the brake light switch and see if they are on then.

Thanks for the replys guys, I have tried dissconnecting the brake light switch and it makes no difference (apart for the obvious brake lights not working when I press the brake pedal!)

Short in the wiring between the passenger side headlamp wire and the brake lights. Trace the passenger side headlamp wiring and see if you can find it?
