Trying to work out the part number for the following item (circled in red):

https://flic.kr/p/2jg8hoq https://flic.kr/p/2jg9x9S https://flic.kr/p/2jg5jsZ
From the ETKA link below I don't think it's 1J0 121 087 E as that doesn't look like it has an electrical connection on the top.

Any ideas would be great,

Thanks!

It looks like 1J0 121 087 E to me as well. I don't think the part has an electrical connector. I think it's got a coolant temperature sensor shoved down it. Pull the electrical connector off and see if its a sensor held in by a clip.

Edited... ah yeah, pull the electrical connector off and then the black U shaped circlip and it looks like a temp sensor that just pulls out.

Cheers, will give that a try at the weekend. I've got a basic code reader so might hook that up to see if it throws up a code whilst pulled out.

Essentially what I'm trying to work out is why all the gunk is over the pipes it sits on. It's not oil but coolant I think when I wipe it off. Hence I was wondering if the part circled was a breather valve or something

Ah right, that would make sense. Probably the rubber seal on the sensor has gone allowing coolant to come up past it.

If you think that the O-ring seal is leaking get a new one as well as a new engine coolant sensor, and maybe even a new clip as these things can spring out and away from you when you remove them - and they are coloured black and fall into a dark and so black zone, I know this, or maybe tie a length of thread through the clip before you remove it, doing that will always save you losing it.
