I put a head gasket on my lcr yesterday. Timed up the crank mark and the cam marks both ok. Spoked engine over my hand and made sure of no tight spots and that the timing marks still lined up - all ok. So built the head up and started it up but and the EPC light is on the dash and the engine dosnt sound good. The cylinder head was away and got rebuilt too.

HELP!!!!

If the head is dry it takes a while for the hydraulic lifters to fill fully with oil ......ditto the hydraulic tensioner on the VVT . This makes the cam timing out slightly until the chain gets fully tensioned by the tensioner operating as it should ......... up to 20 minutes warmed up running in some cases . The empty lifters sound horrible until primed .

Assuming that you dropped the sump to check the oil pump pickup filter is clear if fitting a new head etc . The lifters etc dont like low oil pressure on this engine.
