How do I get the lock mechanism out of the door handle?

Hi guys,

I have a set of replacement door handles with working locks in them. They are yellow and my original ones are black. My original

units are completely missing the lock barrels and mechanism. How do I remove the mechanism and install them in my original

handles? I cant see a way for them to come out, and I do not want to break them.

ive looked for this before, i think i found googling for the polo 98 onwards worked as they have the same handles, IIRC something like putting the key in with handle removed... i was looking into it as mate was breaking one with colour coded handles

Yes, you need the key in. There's a big circlip on the back. Once you start taking it apart, it's fairly obvious.

thanks guys I figured it out. You push the center paddle down and the clamp on the back slides off. Then like you said you put the key in and turn and the barrel slides out

don't take the key out unless the barrel is taped up or in the handle

that is unless you like jigsaw puzzles

yes, I noticed that when I started to slowly pull the key out the pins wanted to jump out
