Just been kinda offered a 2nd hand IHI on another site, and I quote:

FAO - Mat .... ive an IHI turbo at the moment if you or anyone else would be interested? external trust wastegate etc i know its good for 450 bhp ... can get a complete spec if ya want?

Not got the spec yet. What did put me off was the "external trust wastegate". Don't have a clue what this mean, other than guessin it would dump the air to atmosphere. I understand that our cars ar recirc/internal. Would this turbo fit (i know it's limited info ATM) and also, how much would you be looking at payin (again, I know it depends on mileage, spec etc etc)

was looking for a k03s in about 6months time or so, but if I can get a BT on the cheap, it may be worthwhile getting it, and holding onto it for a while......

only bit i can help with is that an external wastegate redirects exhaust gases to by-pass the turbo if the exhaust flow is too high for it to handle so it doesnt overspool .....a kind of safety device.....iirc.....i think the k03/k03s/k04 all have internal wastegates where it is inside the turbo its self :)

yeah, that's what I thought.

Wasn't sure if all IHIs where external, and if not (assuming people like caveo etc have internal wastegate IHIs), then would an external one make a difference?

TBH, I can't see why it would, and it would probably just mean getting a BOV instead of my 007p recirc

from what i understand the only reason some people have external wastegates is that they want alot of power so where an internal one wouldn't be unsuitable and unreliable ....also i dont see any reason why you would have to change your dv...but i only know what i read on the internet hopefully someone with abit more knowledge will clarify things for you

yeah. lol... waiting for the Big Boys like h17och etc to pop along :D

External wastegate is nothing to do with recirc or dump to atmosphere matt. It just seperates the wastegate flow into the exhaust which is better on bigger turbos as internal gates can struggle with the amount they have to deal with amoungst other things.

Not sure which IHI this will be if it is good for 450bhp but from what you are saying its just the turbo which is only the tip of the iceberg for going BT. You can get an IHI VF34 turbo itself for £500 but its everything else...exhaust mani, dp, injectors, etc etc that cost the real money. Id stick with your k03s plan if I was you as it IHI will cost you at least £3k even if you have the turbo.

yeah, that's what I started thinking after posting.

Realistically, although I may get a bargin on IHI, it will still cost a lot to get the figures. Just asked iac_cupra, and he now has me thinking about hybrid

think I may stick to original k03s plan, and try to get 230ish (or as near as) by this time next year, and maybe in the long term aim for hybrid (or forget k03s, and go straight for hybrid :D)

oh the choices.......... :D

Like I said the turbo is only one small part of the expensive full kit you need and then fitting on top. Stick to k03s if you dont want to spend ££££s.

Get some pictures off the guy, I've never seen an externally gated IHI personally. Penny valve must be welded up like on some garretts maybe?

Plus you need to think about the extra bits you will need like clutch, diff, engine mounts, map, stronger gearbox internals etc. Its never ending!

put it this way...i have a 450+ ibiza and im changing my car now. new one is already on k03s and will be staying that way....

if you want a fast ibiza...buy mine :)

HoocH

start collecting the bits of hardware you want first, like fmic, turbo back, tip etc then make the turbo and the map the last thing and you'll notice a massive difference,

i did it the other way around and got a stage 1 map and then got the turbo and then everything else and because it was done gradually it didnt make a big enough difference hence why im selling mine to buy a BT'd car instead now.

i genuinely am loving the idea of a k03'd car. something i never have to work on again....well to a point.

also after losing my dad to a road accident it makes me think i would hate to put my family through what we have all been through, for a second time.

im hardly the most sensible of drivers and a 450+bhp fwd car hardly helps the situation.

i could never down grade the car from what it is. its faar to special. i just think its time for someone else to drive it.

not to mention arbs, brakes etc

also Labour time (unless you can do it your self) is the biggest expense, not parts of course, and having a reserve of money for any unplanned issues
