Hey all just wondering what you pay around the age of 22 and have not been driving that long.

Im Interested in buying one of these cars next year, whilst looking at getting a bike.
Now that is not a problem for me as Im 26 and have been driving since I was 17, BUT my Mrs Is looking at doing her test next year, so it would be nice if she could drive it as well, then we don't have to own 2 cars.

The reason Im changing is I own a 2005 Mondeo ST which Is expensive to run and Insure compared to the Biza, plus the Biza will be a nice little run around.

Now Im unsure if to put her on my insurance OR make her have her own insurance, as I don't want to loose my No claims whilst she learns how to drive on her own after passing her test, Also She can then start building her no claims up as well. All depends on Price though right.

Can't help with your age group for insurance but being over 40 I am paying £272 FC with £150 XS for 20,000 miles a year incl business use.

I found the FR TDi good for insurance - even compared to my old MK4 Ibiza TDi130

First question: How many miles do you do a year? If it is 10K or less then I really can't see the appeal of the diesel, it won't save you much more over the ST a month on fuel. Possibly £20-25 tops and that isn't worth the outlay of forking out for the new Ibiza.

What is your ST worth? What FR TDI's are you looking at (e.g. price range) and what is your budget for the swap?

Good shout on changing to let the missus' drive it, an ST wouldn't be too friendly for a first time driver on the wallet.

Maybe you could consider the petrol FR?

Can't help with the age group I'm afraid. I'm 49 and have trouble even remembering what I did when I was 22! Well actually I can but it mostly involved alcohol, loud rock music, motorbikes and some dodgy substances! lol

The FR Diesel is a great car, and doesn't have the issues that the TSI engines have. Yeah it's not as quick in the end as the twin-charged engines but It's still nippy enough! Personally I couldn't live with wondering if the TSI engine would start misfiring (or worse) being in the back of my mind, and I would definitely not be keeping it beyond the end of the warranty period. No such issues with the TDI unit.

I'm paying £280 P/A for mine, 15K miles a year with business use included. Insurer is Direct Line but I'd not choose them again as if you try to mod the car they'll slap on a dirty great premium loading! Have had to hold off modding till my insurance with them runs out!

Might not help, but I'm 20, nearly 21, with 3 years driving, 0 NCB (named driver for 3 years) and my Cupra is £750 a year. Although it works out about £900ish paying monthly.

I would imagine it wouldn't be any more than mine, especially as I live in a "high risk" area, *apparently*

Really!?

Im 20, in a 1.4 16V driving for 3 years, 1 years NCB and its £730 a year.

You have to remember tho, insurance companies have got the cupra down wrong in their data bases, if ur looking for prices for an fr its ridiculus.

Prices for me roughly;
FR - 1500
Cupra - 800
Boc - 2000

Even tho cupra and boc are same car!!

Just wait till the companies clock on, and all the premiums rise lol

Trust me mate they already know lol. I spoke to Elephant on the phone and asked why the quote was so cheap, to which they guy said:
"Yeah the Cupra along with the Fabia vRS and Polo GTI were marked down as ins group 4, not 14, not a lot we can do about it, but I suppose we get loads of business out of it so it's not all bad"

Seems like the prices will be staying put for a while yet.
