Identifying flywheel type (Leon 5F 1.6 TDI 2014)

Hi everyone,

I’m dealing with a rattling sound on the driver’s side of my car and I need to determine whether I should replace the flywheel or the clutch release piston.

The car is a Seat Leon 5F, 1.6 TDI (81 kW), year 2014.

Before I order any parts, I want to be 100% sure whether my car has a dual-mass flywheel or a solid one. Can someone help me identify the correct flywheel type using my VIN number?

I’m happy to send the VIN via private message if needed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated – trying to sort this before I go ahead with taking the transmission apart.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I can find the part number from the official parts catalog but I'm not sure that it would tell us right away if it's a solid one or not. Anyway, that would help as a starting point, I believe. Send the VIN over to me.

Here's the flywheel look-up result for your VIN.
The drawing at the left is just for illustration purposes, actual parts may look different.
A search on Google using the part number may return results with actual photos of used parts and that would also help, I believe.
The part number is 04L105269

Cheers,
Serdar

Hi Serdar,

Thanks a lot for the quick lookup and the part number – I really appreciate your help!

Just to confirm – is 04L105269 a fixed flywheel (solid), or is it a dual-mass type? Also, do you happen to know if this flywheel usually requires replacement over time, or is it typically reused?

Lastly, based on your experience – could the rattling sound on the driver's side be more likely coming from the clutch release piston, if the flywheel is still in decent shape?

Thanks again for the support!

Cheers,

That part number is a solid flywheel.

Does the rattling stop when you put your foot on the clutch?

I had a feint rattle from the gearbox side of the engine bay - thinking the worst it might be my dual mass (I have a DM on my 2.0tdi) - but turned out to be just the back lash in the gears - gear box oil change cured my rattle.

Yes it stops when i press the clutch and hold it, as soon as i let go in idle it starts again, i did oil change few days ago the sound is still heard.

If this is the part no of solid flywheel does it undergo replacement, and can I suspect the clutch release piston has a problem.

Personally I would suspect your (sprung) clutch plate first rather than your release bearing for a rattling noise - if you have changed your gearbox oil.
You have a simple clutch release lever and remote slave cylinder - rather than the stupid concentric type.

Thank you for your reply. I’ve scheduled the mechanical inspection for next week, and I will be replacing the entire clutch set, while keeping the existing fixed flywheel.

Just to confirm - my 2014 64 plate Leon SE Tech 1.6TDI 105PS had a solid flywheel from the factory
Thank you for your reply. I suppose SuperV8 is right — it probably just needs a full clutch set service, and I hope that will resolve the issue. Il make an update when its done.
