Hey All

I am planning a total ice install into my car (when i get it) and have a huge system planned.

However, I am struggling to find a decent place to put a 7inch touchscreen tft. I need it high enough to see/use, but low enough to stop people (also as mates been pulled over for having one switched on, let alone not in use by driver...)

I have some options as far as I can tell.....

a) mount it in dash like Pete from ICE cavern was doing (sat nav components)

b) Have it move-able (spelling...) whereby it can be clipped to fans/grills when needed, and put into glovebox when not in use.

c) A third idea was for me to utilise a broken cd-rom drive and use it to eject the screen from somewhere hidden?

Has anyone mounted a screen in their LEON? If so, pics and advice would be great!
Cheers

How about an in dash TV screen

just bosh it in place of the HU & out it'll pop

not cheap - but if you wanted cheap you'd stick a matsui in the footwell

I'm guessing if you want a touch screen then it's because you're doing an in car PC?

If so then get hold of the double din dash centre and then fit the screen where the sat nav would be. It's under the line of the doors so not easy to see from outside and could be blended in easy enough.

I might be selling my double din dash center in a few months.

Yes, I am building an in Car PC. It will give me GPS, MP3,DVD,divx and some other lovely toys that i am keeping to myself at the moment..... ;)

How much is the double DIN dash?

Think u mentioned around £800 squids for it...... Thats nearly double the cost of my in car PC so might try to find a cheaper alternative!

in dash.
it will be placed where the head unit used to be, in a double din slot.

Slight problem tho, it leaves no room for a head unit. However, thinking of relocating the head unit to the glove box and custom wiring the faceplate to a sun visor or something.
Who knows? lol

Anyone here actually know the part numbers, or how to find them (as the seat garages around here cant find em???) for the sat nav double DIN console?
Please, any help is appreciated, atm I am totally stuck!
Cheers

basically, the climate control drops down, and replaces the cigarette lighter and astray. You lose the astray etc all together, and the climate control gives more room above for the double DIN dash.

After some very hard searching, I managed to get these part numbers for the sat nav dash. I THINK/HOPE they are right. Anyone confirm this?

1M0858061C1UQ £181.00 CENTRE DASH DOUBLE DIN
1M0863154 @ 24.84 BRACKET
1M2863154 @ £7.74 REINFORCEMENT PLATE

I only need the big expensive :( part as I am fitting my own touchscreen etc in, and wont be needing the brackets i dont think.

If this is wrong, please let me know asap!
Cheers

Hey again

Well, as per my signature the car is STILL not in my possession, and so install hasnt actually started being "installed".

Pay day this week, and out and about test driving etc this week/next week etc - trying to get a Cupra for around 8-9k is quite hard so it seems! GRRR

Anyway, I have all of the PC, the touchscreen etc, and hopefully the seat garage can supply the double DIN. after that, all i need to do is get the cables laid! Should take a weekend or two i recon, depending on the time i get off!

Will deffo keep u posted tho. Cant wait to get my new car!

Right, so far I have:

7 inch touchscreen LCD (Xenarc)
Epia TC10000 Mobo, 1ghz cpu, 256MB RAM, 20gig hard disk
Carnetix PSU (from USA)
USB GPS
IR Keyboard with built in mouse
Navigator v3 software
54g wifi card (PCMCIA)
Media Engine software on top of win xp

Rough total cost for that lot is £450. System boots in less than 25seconds, and plays mp3's, dvd, divx, gps, camera warnings, wifi, war driving, wireless LAN to house to upload/download music/videos from driveway!

Its nice, but i gotta get it into glovebox (if temperature is ok) or under passenger seat. Shall also be getting the double DIN dash facia for around £200 from seat, unless i can pick it up at a scrappy or second hand from anyone!

So far so good, just gotta get the car b4 more progress can be made now :p

That kit sounds impressive AND CHEAP ! what happend to the sat nav?
youl be lucky i have been trying to source a sencound hand double din for ages! the best i got was on ebay, £5 for a standard one i was going to mod!
so does all that kit just clip together or is there a lot of complex wireing?
id be tempted to put it all in the boot, or is that not feasable?

hehe, thought u would say that pete!

1M0858061C1UQ £181.00 CENTRE DASH DOUBLE DIN
1M0863154 @ 24.84 BRACKET
1M2863154 @ £7.74 REINFORCEMENT PLATE

Are those the right part numbers tho? If so, do i only need the top one? I can then get a seat dealer to get it for me so i can do what u suggested! Was going to do that anyways! LOL

Scotty_B: The USB GPS mouse is SAT nav when combined with the navigator software. Does voice prompts too, so that when plugged into the amps in the boot, will sound out of existing audio system. Works quite well on a laptop i tried :D

The kit is basically a PC. If you know how to install and set up a PC, it is pretty similar. The TC10000 is the motherboard that measures 17cm x 17cm, the harddrive was removed from an old PC of mine and windows xp was installed. Got the free software called media engine which replaces the majority of the s*it on windows and produces 5 or 6 touchscreen enabled buttons for: DVD's, MP3's, SAT NAV, RADIO, Wireless internet etc etc.
I have also designed my own skin for the software with a seat leon in the background image (which is quite nice :D)

When i actually go home (at girlfriends atm) i can take pictures of all the gear if you like. The biggest cost of the project is the touchscreen, which cost me £220. Motherboard, CPU, RAM was £100 ish (some secondhand) and the harddrive i already had, software already had as well. USB stuff was like a £10 here, a £10 there.
I get paid tomorrow, and then all i gotta do is find a decent black/silver leon cupra with less than 50k miles (prob X/Y/01 reg) for about 8.5k.

It is feasible to put it all in the boot, and a lot of people do. However, i am worried that i have too many cable runs for everything, considering the long monitor cables to go back to the dash, the radio, the subs/amp cables, keyboard/mouse etc etc. You can then struggle with noise such as alternator whine which will interfere with the picture on the screen and the running of the computer.

Hope this helps :D
