Hi all,
Car at dealers for gear selection investigation today.

Lead technician went through problem with me in the car agreed that selector setup was probably wrong and not a more serious gearbox fault causing 1st gear to baulk and sometimes inadvertently selecting reverse.

He could see the problem by moving the gear lever right and left from the neutral position and concluding that the lever was too far right i.e. too close to 5/6 position.

After 2 hrs picked up car gear selection now as it should be, easy selection of 1st gear with no baulking.

I`m a happy bunny.

Thanks for all your interest.

Just an update on on my sons car, which is a bit more serious. The problem is being caused due to a damaged gear cog, saying the cogs are burred and the dealer is suggesting it is down to the way my son is driving the car, suggesting he is changing gear to fast or perhaps forcing the car into 1st when it is moving. Not quite sure if this could be the case or not as he is a pretty good driver.

The dealer initially suggested seat wouldn't cover it under warranty, but they are and didn't even query it.

Anyone come across this before and does what they are saying sound plausible?
