I wouldnt use it as it might have different thermal properties to coolant

Not as a substitute, just to thin the neat coolant. If the masses lean towards using the recommended 'distilled', I'd love to know where they are getting it from cos it's like rocking horse s**t up this neck of the woods!

if its for a complete flush you should be good with a 50:50 mix coolant: distilled water but if your just using it to do a small top up just put it in neat it wont make any difference

Last time I got it was from Morrisons petrol station cost me about £1.30 or so for a litre I think it was years ago so I'm not sure if they still sell it

The things you learn about water! So de-ionised, available at every motor parts store you could imagine, so I guess this would do as an alternative. Distilled, available nowhere except online, not great when you need it for the weekend, but I guess I should have prepped better ey. I've just bought from a chemist what was sold to me as distilled, but is in fact purified water which on having a google, is again is a different type of water to distilled. That's my quest ending right here. I'll use anything right about now!

to be honest distilled/ purified/ de-ionised will be much the same thing its just getting rid of all the shyte thats in the water, at the end of the day its all water and as long as you get the correct mixture with coolant you will be fine
