Latetly my oil temp. and at times the coolant temp. rise above the norm - oil by 10 degrees and water - the needle moves to 105 degrees at times but mostly stays on 90 or maybe rises slightly above that.
After a Vag-COM test, my mechanic noticed the Lambda correcting % is at Max, ie 25% and suggested I replace the Front Lambda as it's causing the lean mixture hence the rise in overall temp.It logs as a fault code (intermittent) and twice remained constant with CEL on.
My question is this -
If the ECU is correcting the mixture how urgent is replacing the Lambda probe?
Could the knackered Lambda really cause this rising temp. readings?
Kind of worried to shell out the money for probe if it doesn't rectify the rising temp. problem which could be anything from thermostst to blockage or whatever
I'm due Monday for the repair so would really appreciate your input guys :)
Thanks in advance

mine is a long story my lambda went bust so i replaced them both and vag com still sais that the lambda sensor proformace is too low.

running it rich for a while now its not massive. still boost to 20psi runs fine. its just so annoying having the eml on all the time. what checks can i do?

Mine went in for the overheating issues and was diagnosed with the faulty lambda. Hope replacing it will solve the problem.
Check with a trusty mechanic what to do.

Why so sure?
I mean I really hope you're right :) , but you never know. The question I asked in my initial post - Is how dangerous is it to drive with faulty Lambda if the ECU balances out the lean mixture?

probably more than running rich i really cant answer that question if that is the only fault code it came up with then tbh i cant be anything else except maf or temp sensor.

Well here's the update:
new thermostat , new Lambda probe , fans work at both speeds, no leaks , 5 months old water pump(metal impellor),working temparture sensor anddddddd - still heats up above the 90 and oil 10 degrees higher . at cruising settles back but oil is still effected:(
My mechanic and I are really stumped!
This is a really niggling and elusive problem . He maintains it has to be the cooling system . Head gasket/cracked head or oil pump are out of the question as the former would show immediately and the latter would show an oil pressure CEL .
Can anyone help? Please
Thanks

And it's finally been solved :)
You would not believe what I went through !!
2 mechanics , a thermostat , a new radiator and a new secondary waterpump+main waterpump because it was removed during extreme investigations .
The problem was so rare :
Pieces of an old plastic impellor were lodged inside the coolant entrance of the block!! Really proves how shite they are!
My mechanic said this is only the 2nd time encountaring something so weird!
Car runs perfect now :)
