Hi all, simple question ive got some gearbox oil in the shed part number is g 052 911 a1. All i kneed to know is this suitable for my lcr? Ive looked in the faq section and its not listed, but miller oils list an oil that is the equivilant to this for the lcr???

Also, where is the filler plug located?

I've got some gearbox oil for the 02M in front of me just now, and the part no on that is G 052 171 A2, dunno what gearbox your oil is meant for.

I tried the Redline 75/90 gearbox oil in my 02M and it was pants, so always use the proper stuff from the garage now :)

The filler plug is on the front of the gearbox, the drain plug is on the bottom. You'll either need a 14mm hex key bit, or a large security spline bit to remove it. (My LC uses the hex key, although lots of people on here seem to have the security torx bit) I'll try to find the info on the size of it.

I would prefere to use oem oil,the only reason im trying to find out if this oil will be ok,is A,its free, and B,it saves me a trip to the stealers!!

That oil part no you quoted appears to be for older transmissions - one search brings it up in reference to a manual Passat with the 2.8 lump, from between 1992 and 2001??

Right

It looks like the G 052 911 A1 is for the 5-speed gearboxes (the 1 at the end refers to it being a 0.5L bottle), and the 6-speed stuff I have here is a 1L bottle G 052 171 A2.
