Hi guys,

Today i was driving my leon and smoke started to pour out the exhaust and the engine developed a knocking noise as if something had broken off. Soon as it happened i pulled over and turned the engine off and rang the RAC out, after 5 or 10 mins of the patrol trying to crank the engine over it now wont start.

Got it recovered to my local seat dealer and they have said it sounds like an injection problem. To be honest im not convinced, the car is only 3 months old and has done 1900 miles.

Has anyone else had anything like this before or any advice?

Thanks

Kieran

More likely to be the turbo, I'd say.

Similar symptoms to my mate's land rover, which had the turbo fail a couple of weeks back (though the engine still starts & runs in that).

At least you're under warranty still.

Thats what the recovery bloke said, he said by the sound of it the turbo has gone and the pistons could well be seized now because of the rac but im not so sure about that.

it was bluey grey coloured smoke then it started knocking then it cut out.

Definately the turbo, same probelm I had a few weeks ago. Loads of blue/white smoke from back. Pulled over and found out no oil in the car. Started the engine again and later it cut out and would not start.

Luckily mine was just the turbo but was told that engine may have seized but survived that scare. My engine did not make the knocking noise though so it maybe that your engine has seized due to no oil in the car after the turbo blew

Thats what i was thinking. So what are the chances of my leon surviving this, obviously with the price of labour and a new engine will they just write the car off or replace it?

As its under warranty, it should be replaced without any problems I would say. Most likely if the engine is seized, your going to need a new engine block.

Thats not to bad then. I can imagine the dealer wont be happy, they just ordered a new injector for it saying that will fix it.

will do lol thanks for the advice soon as i get any news il post it here.

at first it would turn over and fire up but would had a loud knocking noise and would cut out as soon as i touched the throttle, but now it will just about turn over but wont actually fire up.

Quick update guys, the dealer rang this afternoon to say the leon was ready to be picked up. just drove it from the dealers to home (about 15 miles), everything seems fine if anything it feels better than it did from new. thanks for all the advice

apparently the number 3 injector was faulty so they replaced, no idea why it went or even if it will happen again. and im going to check now to make sure it is my car lol

apparently so yeah, they said the smoke might of been from excess oil and the engine was burning it off but they dont know 100% what it was.
