Hi there, ive got a 2007 leon cupra 2.0 tfsi BWJ engine, manual. The car has alot of hardware modifications and has recently developed problems.

Managed to get a fault code from the ECU as below:

000135

P0087 - FUEL RAIL SYSTEM PRESSURE TOO LOW - INTERMITTENT

Now i have looked up this fault online and even on this forum and some people seem to have suggested the pressure sensor or the hpfp itself not managing to keep pressure at high revs.

Now I have a hpfp with AUTOTECH uprated internals that has been fitted to the car for a while. I also have many spares parts and sensors for the engine. So I pulled the pump off and checked the cam lobe and follower, no signs of anything wrong at all. the follower was replaced when the uprated pump was fitted along with a new o-ring. the old follower was in very good condition anyway.

Now I also swapped the fuel pressure sensor on the pump whilst i was there. Put it all back together and went for a drive, got engine upto high revs - sudden harsh misfire again as before, but now car seems to have gone into limp mode, can be driven but has no power and seemingly no boost, switched it off and on again - engine light on!!

Cant get car out of limp mode and i dont have a code reader to see whats going on as it was a friend who plugged it in on a saturday.

I had problems with the car a few months ago with not running full power and lumpy idle, I replaced all the coils and plugs and it was fine but this was a different kind of misfire and the car still had moderate power and didnt have a harsh sudden misifire so im not sure its the ignition at fault.

Im wondering if i should maybe try another fuel pump and even put the autotech internals into a low mileage pump I have????

I now going to check the boost system for any leaks along with vacuum hoses.

Ive also cleaned the MAF sensor and check the coil connections just in case. Also left the battery disconnected over night to see if it will come out of limp mode but im doubtful. Now about to get back to trying to resolve it as its supposed to be going to be remapped on monday!!!

Heres the cars spec:

2.0 TFSI BWJ CUPRA ENGINE

STAGE 1 REMAP - ANGEL TUNING
FORGE FRONT MOUNTED TWIN INTERCOOLER KIT
FORGE FORCED TWIN TAKE INDUCTION KIT
REVO PCV REVAMP / DELETE
MILTEK LARGE BORE DOWNPIPE & HIGH FLOW SPORTS CAT NON RESONATED WITH REMUS BACK BOX
AUTOTECH HPFP INTERNALS
CTS TURBO DISCHARGE PIPE
CTS INTERCOOLER / THROTTLE BODY PIPE

ANY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED

THANKS

Hi just thought I would update this, car is fixed, problem was found to be the uprated internals of the HPFP, the piston and guide internals had become scored which intern caused the piston to begin seizing in the guide therefore the pump was not working properly at all at high revs as it was not getting the full stroke of the pump from the cam as it was seizing in. Now gone back to the standard internals atm as the uprated internals are simply a absurd cost.

Uprated internals didnt have any markings at all as regards to manufacturer which i found strange!

My auto tech internals had AutoTech embossed onto the internals mate.

Glad you sorted the issue though

Yes ive seen this before and most have manufacture marks, my internals have the cap & collets design, does anyone know if the kmd internals are marked?
