Leon Mk1 door lock

So my Leon had a massive problem with the passenger side door. It was locked shut. I was overseas for 2 years which didn't help.

So I thought there had to be away to get this door open.

Firstly I removed the rear seat, and then took out the front seat to give me better access to the door. makes life better with a little room, Two little screws on the front seat runners, 2 13mm nuts on the front of the seat. disconnect the battery as you will be playing with the airbags. Point to note move the window down around 4 to 5 inches as if you turn the ignition on and airbag fault will appear.

You are going to need to buy a new lock for sure. [Ebay] and wing mirror interior cover maybe. You may snap them and mutilate the door lock to open the door.

So there is a few guides on here on how to get the panel off which helped.

I moved on to removing the plastic around the door and A pillar in the middle. Took off the door seal so I had fully access. Few screws and clips to tackle.

Undo the two bottom torx screws T20 I believe that hold the door card on.
Then removed the inside door handle. Pull off the plastic and unscrew the two Philips screws. Now wilh some force pull the door card off. Can be easy as it's just clip. Now as the door is locked shut you will have to force the door card off. Make sure you disconnect any electric leads. Now wiggle and pull till it's free. This is where I broke the wing mirror inside cover.

Now move the glass down so you can undo it's carriers and free the glass. Tape the window up so it don't fall down.

Once all is free you will have the metal skin to do. 8 to 10, 10mm bolts now remove this.

Right for the fun part (6 hours wasted) trying to to break the lock. In the end I had a new one so thought f**k it and attacked the bit you can see. I undone the screws you see and pulled it apart. You should see the motor for the lock. Hit, pull and wiggle till that motor is out.

Now you should have access the the cog that moves the dead lock. Twist it all the way down and the door should unlock. Such a relief. Now you need a M8 bit to undo the two door lock nuts. If they round off just use a 6/8mm drill bit and drill them out only sort so will snap off if it comes to it.

So after 2 days I finally got it all sorted and now I have a nice useable door.

One thing to note if you buy a lock like I did off amazon. The outer hand clip was smaller so I had to trim the plastic attached to the wire down a few mm.

If anyone needs anymore help with this just post here and I will try my best to help.

I assume it's would be the same for golfs and others that share the same doors.

Sorry for spelling and grammar I am not the brightest.

Update. As an after thought if you have electric windows, it would be worth checking the cables and plastic clips as these break alot. Grease up the runners a little and fit a new seal between the metal skin and the door. Stops flooding. Clear the drain holes in the bottom of the door to.
