Hey all

i currently drive a 1999 Fiat Seicento Sporting, but am looking at getting something a bit bigger. at the moment, i am looking at a 1.4 mk 2 estillo S reg.
i have a few questions i want to ask, before i go about buying:

first of all, what should i look out for when i view one?

are they spacious behind the wheel? (im 6 ft 5! :D)

what are common problems with them?

what engine mods can i go about doing?
(decent induction kit, exhaust, etc)

the one i am looking at is advertised on the rat look forum (dont worry, its not ratty!) and can be found under the cars for sale section. I would post a link, but cant because i havent posted 15 times :p

sorry if this is a repost, i look forward to your replies [B)]

I have the exact car that you are looking at. I have an estillo and they are good cars. Im guessing insurance is an issue so you are going for a 1.4 instead of a gti.

Have a look at my readers ride thread if you need to.

Most common problem is pedal box, check that it is ok and hasnt started to break as its an akward job to do. Top mounts are another weak point. If you search you will find loads on what to look out for.

You should have plenty of space in it as they are spacious inside.

Not really much point in doing engine mods as its only a 1.4. You could put a different exhaust on, I have a Mk3 Cupra box on mine and it sounds good.

i was lookin at a cinq before i bought my cupra but the 55bhp put me right off and any so i bought my ibiza great little cars!

go for a 16v there the best ones mate :) youl love it

yeah im 18, coming up on 1 year NCB so want something a bit juicy.

and the cinq/seis are deceptive.
they are quite quick for little 1.1s, and theyre easily tuneable.

mine has a janspeed catback, induction kit, bigger throttle body and it will out do most smaller engined cars. therye really chuck-able aswell...

Pete do you go to lakeside on saturdays?
mind if i have a look at yours? :p

looked at insurance on a 2.0 GTI yesteday, was loooking at £2300 with a years NCB. thats only 200 more than what im paying at the moment on my 1.1!

I Owned a Seicento for my First Car.
it was so fast i went off the road and into a ditch :O
xD

Wow your insurance is cheap on a 2.0 GTi.
Mines 500 Quid More. :|

right.

had a look through some of the threads, and have a few more questions:
what are the differences between pre, mid, and post facelift models?
how do i know which one im looking at?

and also, what is with not being able to find any replacement parts for them?
what is the solution?

cheers :D

unlike the 1.4 ibiza

Sarcasm?
If not: I call BS! I outrun a Merc Sprinter in 1st, 2nd and 3rd... Then it came flying past me but still! :D And Skoda Fabia 16v is also slower..

Pre-facelift is like mine... They have the black plastic bumpers(or faded grey lol), unless they are replaced with post-facelift bumpers... One thing I noticed is that when people replace the pre-facelift bumpers, they tend to leave the old indicators in...

So if it has botoxed painted bumpers of a post-facelift model, check if the indicators are flush with the fenders, if so it's likely to be a post-facelift, if they are insetted it's a pre-facelift with facelift bumpers... You might also check if there are metal bodyparts behind the facelift bumpers if you're not sure, I saw some people didn't cut the painted parts underneath the black bumpers away before putting on the facelift bumpers...

Mid-facelift is kind of difficult to see I think? Some have a black plastic strip over the fully smooth and painted bumpers of a post-facelift? Google doesn't have many pictures where they have something in common though...

Post-facelift = fully painted bumpers, botoxed... Like most of the guys on this forum have :p They also have painted mirrors IIRC...

1995 and older is pre-facelift, mid-facelift was in '96 if I'm correct and post-facelift was 97 and later... Post facelift ones are also less prone to rust since they started putting some kind of rust protection on them after 97...

But yeah, what you mean with not able to find replacement parts? If you need something, someone on the forum probably has it lieing around in it's shed, or the scrapyard might have something... Thing is, seats to sit on tend to mix with Seats to drive on Ebay :p

mythbuster pretty much summed it up,

Mine used to be a prefacelift, and now is facelifted :)
(see my thread and you'll see)

If you can afford it, get something more powerful than a 1.4, its not that fast mythbuster :p

Still faster than most chavs though, cause they think it's a 1.0 and theirs is a 1.4 and 2 times as heavy... :p

Fast enough for me atm anyway... Even a mate of mine with a Mazda 323F 1.5 16v DOHC told me "Wow this thing is faster than you would think!" lol

thanks you and good night

@nosher if you can go for a gti even if it is only an 8v cause you will have more fun in it

A 15ft Van ?

The 1.4 ibiza engine isnt tuneable in the slightest...no amouth of bolt on mods will change that.

You will however get a decent reliable motor and with a few choice mod's you'll be able to make it corner like a beast.
