I've had my 2003 (53) model TDi SE 130PD from new. "The Bus", or more recently "Trigger" (Trigger's Broom), has done 140k and the engine is still going very strongly indeed - it's everything else around it that are showing their ages! BUT, to date, it has never not got me from A to B at full speed.
It usually likes one big bill a year +
servicing and consumables, but I do keep it well maintained - I need to as I need it to get me to work and me not getting to work gets very expensive very quickly.
The list of little things is pretty extensive and the list of not-so-little things is growing annually.
Not-so-little things (by bill, not in order):
Almost complete A/C system (~£3000 @ Seat).
Gearbox rebuild, driveshafts and front wheel bearings (~£1600).
Steering rack and track rod ends (~£1600 @ Seat).
Front brake pads and discs (genuine pads last ages and stop the car efficiently but wear the discs as fast as the pads).
Rear brake pads and discs (see above).
Dual mass flywheel and clutch (~£700).
Auxiliary heater rebuild (~£400, but I'd recommend the guy)
Little things:
2x water pumps
2x alternators
2x rear brake callipers
A/C belt tensioner
Both track rod ends
Both front anti-roll bar links
Both front suspension mount top bearings
Front wiper linkage
Both headlamp level motors
2x handbrake cables
Turbo boost pipe (I didn't know this had gone - must have been a small hole)
2x turbo seals
Coolant temp sensor
Ambient temp sensor
2x glow plugs
6x parking sensors (there's only 8 on the car but some have been replaced twice, others are still original)
Blows its OSR tail lamp every 3 months in winter
NSR electric window switch
Gear lever gaiter
2x steering column bushes (1 under 3yr warranty)
Heater blower fan
CV gaiters
Steering rack gaiters
There is more but I'm struggling with thinking of them and I've got to stop writing this and get back to work. However, I do still really like the car. People keep telling me to change it because it always seems to need money spending on it but who's to say the next car will be any different - at least I know what's been replaced on mine ...and I'd probably only go out and buy another (a 2.0 TDi) anyway because we like this one so much.
Good luck with your and I hope you like it as much as we like ours!
