Hi

Looking to reduce the slop in the engine movement on my cupra. When changing gear (mainly from 1st to 2nd) when letting the clutch out it feels like there is loads of engine movement.

Just want to get rid of some of it, I dont want to go full engine mount change but I would just like to get a fix that will help out a little.

I have heard that the lower mount bush insert is what I need.

Can anyone point me in the direction of what which one I should get?

I have seen the following:

http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.php?xProd=49784&xSec=11023

Is that the right one??

Which ones are better, Powerflex, SuperPro or ECS?

Any one got any experiences of them, like I say i dont want to go full hog and change the mounts themselves

If it's the mount in the subframe I would recommend this:

Better to just change the complete mount imo. Just fitted the full THS set to my car. Be warned though, the lower mounts will need to be broken out the subframe and it aint the easiest job in the world. Also make sure you put the new mount in correctly.

Have just read that you need to take subframe off.

Dont want to do that so sticking to my original idea of an insert, unless I have read wrong?

I fitted the powerflex insert in my cupra r for the same reason the mounts seem way softer than my old pre facelift car.
Anyway for me it's perfect reduced engine movement massively.
Only downside I see is reversing has a little bit vibration.
When first fitted it seems pretty harsh then I retorqued the bolt after 500 miles and now it's pretty much oem until reversing.
Cheap and easy mod

Yup mine seems to be doing the business. Reduced wheel hop when pulling away sharply, and for £30 its a no brainer.
Just a little note though, make sure you replace the stretch bolt with a new one when you put the insert in. Some kits come with them but some dont so watch out!

Thats probably why yours was £30?

the one on awesome site is £19 including vat

has anyone changed the dog bone mount as well?

Think I paid about £15 delivered for mine.
Didn't come with a bolt and never had any probs with this car or my last one using the original bolt.

I personally wouldn't go for that one as it doesn't say if it includes the washers that allows the whole insert to be tightened up nicely and evenly... Also it doesn't say what type of car its for, as the design changed mid 2009. You can reuse the bolt if really needed but it isn't recommended because it can snap.

This is what mine looks like :

As above theres 2 different inserts depending on which mount your car has.
All kits come with all washers required to fit although I've never actually seen a kit come with the bolt.

So a worthwhile mod for the money and pretty much all that's required for road use in my opinion.

Which one do you have, is it just the standard yellow one that powerflex do?

Yes standard yellow one but depending on the age of car depends on which shape of insert you need.
On powerflex website it shows how to tell which mount you have.
It's just a case of looking underneath to see what shape the rubber mount is.

Thanks, its a 10 plate cupra and it looks like the newer type mount.

Will get one ordered.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Had an insert on my old FR TDI

after about 6 months it went soft

Engine Mounts are the way forward, Had THS FR3 Engine mounts on my FR TDI and now fitted them to the LCR

Fitted this today eventually.... Gear changes are much better!

BUT... the vibration is doing my head in already, when pulling off from a stand still and reversing. Will try it for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

I found this and I let it bed in for 400 miles then slackened the bolt and retorqued it and now I only get a vibration in reverse when manoeuvring which is normal.
If the bolt is too tight it will be worse so make sure it's torqued to the correct torque which I posted earlier in this thread.
It will bed in though
