what would happen on a mk2 cupra if you removed the maf from the intake housing and then started the car?
i know it may not be a good idea long term but want to eliminate it from my fault finding.

Runs fine mate, ive tried it. Dont think theres any lights, but will bring up a fault code of course.

Ermm if you actually removed the maf wouldn't unfiltered air get to ur tub??? Think what DanGb means is just to unplug it! Not sure if thats what you meant tho Rob!

good point,

Do you mean unplugging it or removing it totally?

Running it unplugged can help to show if the MAF has an issue - the car should go a bit more quickly if a dodgy MAF is unplugged. Certainly that was the case on my old 1.8T anyway.

Yep, no need to actually run the car on unfiltered air. Just unplug it and see if there is a difference.

Not sure with the petrol engine but on the TDi it flashes the coil lights on the dash when unplugged (maybe it flashes something else on the petrol?) I asked the dealers what the effects of leaving mine unplugged would be because it's dodgy and they said it would be ok for the quick drive but anything more than that and it would likely go into limp mode.

You will get a warning light on a Cupra if you start it while unplugged.

Is that what's happening on yours?

It's possible I had to drive mine before the light came on. Seat said at the next service that there were no errors logged when they checked it. So it might not get logged.

It was an 08 cupra too.

That's what I thought, but I asked them if there had been any errors logged when it went for the service, and apparently there wern't.....
