Did you remove the plastic mesh on either side of the maf, and just leave the wire mesh?
And how do you exactly remove it? Is it a case of just breaking it out or can it be replaced back in?

Also wondering about the cold air feed to the fog light, what would happen if you hit a large puddle and it got soaked in water would that reach the intake , or would it starve it of air for a second as it was full of water?

Just wondering as I would like to run a better air intake tube to the airbox one I have just now is just down the side of the battery so has no ram effect.

hi mate, yeah its the filter side of the maf that i replaced, although thinking about it maybe the other side might help keep flow quick to the turbo.l have left the wire mesh but as you can see, someone had removed it and go good flow on top of moving the plastic grid. i had to break it of slowly and then smooth it of. its soft flastic.

with regards to the cold air feeed, i can understand your concern, but have to add, ive had the cold air feed in for a while and had no problems. it'd have to be a very deep puddle, which you should would see and prob be able to avoid anyway.ive driven in some seriously wet conditions and had no probs touch wood thusfar.

Might have a go at removing the plastic mesh and see how I get on.

What log is it I would use on VAGCOM for the MAF reading and how do you actually go about collecting the readings? For example what gear am I best to use, and from what revs?

Can vag com just be connected to when the car is already running or are you best connecting laptop the starting the car?

When logging select 4th gear and get as low down the revs as possible, get a nice straight piece of police free road, start logging and put the pedal to the metal and don't back off till at red line.
For codes to log try searching on the VAG com section or Ross tech wed site

log 002block and think it should be fine connecting vag com while car is on.is for me

I had my car hooked up to VAG-COM last weekend and it appears that towards the top end of the rev range, my maf is starting to decrease it's readings and the numbers are going down. I was told that this is a likely sign that the MAF is starting to fail. First of all, should I unplug the MAF and take it for a spin and see what it's like? Secondly, would removing the mesh work well on a Stage 1 car with open cone?

Also I forgot to add that the car is 6yrs old now, a 210 2003 model with 30k.

We would need to see the logs, it could be a boost leak.
Post up requested, actual, revs and MAF reading to allow us to see whats going on.

hi willie, thanks, was bit worried the explanation may have seemed a bit confusing or not properly explanatory. and as you asked, i have done logs pre maf mod and found it stopped at about 197g/s. just removing the grid allowed the air to flow fluidly through the maf allowing the difference to show and be felt.. i was shocked at the restriction this was causing. im glad i did it as i have to say once i get moving the car pulls like a train. def recommend doing it.

gulzar.

Please read this about de-screening the MAF, it is something i often thought about too. mixed opinions all round.
