New car having issues when moving into first from standstill.
Took it to deaker who had a mechanic drive with me as passenger 5 minutes and said he would check characteristics of similar model and get back to me several weeks ago...

100% of the time it's a feeling that there is an little extra mechanical notch/hurdle to fully engage first, that I can live with but if I keep clutch depressed and re engage first it's lovely and smooth.
>5% of the time I have noticed an inch of forward gear stick travel when pulling away in first.
1% the car just was not fully in gear pulling away though felt like it (grinding noise)
Going from second to first is smooth as is changing to first at dead slow speed.

Really appreciate a few opinions before chasing dealership.

Cheers

Fml I had a feeling you was experiencing this. I only noticed this same issue for a few weeks in my 1.4 tsi non ST version.
Only difference from me is I’m pretty certain that it never happened before I had a clutch replacement recently.
Maybe they can adjust the gearbox linkage to slightly adjust it.
I’m planning on finding out if the other similar models do this too. However I was told from the place where the clutch got replaced that he’s noticed it in a cupra and some others. But if your getting this from brand new. Then it “might” be normal but I certainly don’t remember it for the year I’ve owned it and had the clutch change in March but only noticed it in April.

Pretty sure it’s a common issue on a lot of vag models. I had it on my mk5 golf, Audi A3, 2.0 mk3 Leon and now my 1.4 Leon FR. It’s as if it doesn’t want to go into first. Let the clutch out slightly and try again and it’ll go all the way.

I sometimes get this in mine but generally it's only when going into first for the first time. Like there is quite enough clutch pressure there and a pump on and off the pedal sorts it (which backs up the lack of pressure theory and also why it only happens on the first gear selection of the journey).

I can manipulate this every time. When I’m at a standstill so I’m in traffic. I put it in neutral. So foot off clutch pedal, then back down and go into first and I get that “resistance”. If I continue to hold the clutch and select any gear and back to first it’s smooth. Only when I go from neutral to first is when I get this.

The first thing to do is have them check clutch freeplay, too little will cause drag and the synchro rings will baulk when the car is stationary.
Gearbox oil viscosity can also have this effect. My Toyota was really bad until I changed to a lower CsT rating synth oil.

Well yesterday I moved of at the lights and after a second or so there was a mighty clunk and I'm guessing it popped out if first. As I had traffic behind I'm not sure exactly what happened but car did not stall got it back in gear and moved off. What was that all about?

How many miles the car done. I think I experienced this before a clutch replacement. Gears popping out of place. Probably not grabbing it well. I’m not expert. But that’s symptoms I had before I was sure my clutch started slipping.

1200 miles.
To be honest I have a poor opinion of Arnold Clark seafield customer service. I purchased 3 year servicing with them, spoke to them today and awaiting call back.

At that mileage there shouldn't be any worn mounts or shift mechanism to cause it to pop out of gear. Go back to the dealer and demand they investigate properly. Not drive other cars.

I’d agree to go back get something sorted out. I’ll prob get mine readjusted back to where I got the clutch replacement
