ive done a search but could find anything on this topic...

how do i go about converting the windows to electric?
and where do i get parts from?
any help would be appreciated :)

I suspect it'll be much harder than it should be - you'll have to get VagCom involved to tell it there are rear motors or it just won't do anything.

If you source the doorcards (trim and the steel inner ones) from a higher spec Leon or Toledo, you could run a power lead to the driver's and both passenger doors and connect the rear switches up independent of the rest of the vehicle wiring

be prepared to run at least 3 wires all the way around the bottom of the dash or around the rear seats though to get to the n/s rear door :(

I think Sam20V was doing this the proper way, using the original wiring and extra bits .... she may have given up before finally sorting it though

sounds quite hard, to be honest i was looking to make it look oem but i might now just consider buying a universal kit.
can these be used with oem switches? and is it worth buying them??

Honestly, in term of cost and the finished result, buying the innards from a Leon (or Toledo) with electric rear windows is going to be easiest option.

If you're going to be running wires in for an aftermarket kit anyway, you may as well connect them up to genuine SEAT parts

if i was to get all the bits including regulator and motor from a seat leon, like an SE or something would that be a better option and would i still need to change the ECU aswell, as this seems like quite an expensive job.

There is a way to make a independent control unit for the control of the electric windows, if you have access to the two wires direct from the motor. This would be the most basic of designs and would have no sense for traping fingers etc. in the window, but it does work!

It uses two standard single pole double throw relays and all that is required is a FUSED 12V feed, therefore no need to change the ecu. Therefore ecu wont know you have electric rear windows. I can post a electrical diagram if your interested.

You could get the window units and switches from a scraper and make up the control unit and looms yourself.

Does anyone have a pic of the window units and details of the electrical connector?

I think you need more than the two wires to the motor.....

how would it know when the window has reached it's limit of travel ? You don't want to be driving round with the motors burning themselves out constantly trying to jam an already closed window into the top of the doorseal

When you take your finger off the control? As long as you don't have the automatic close ones etc.

Yeah, as i said this is a back to basics approach to electric windows. The two relays create a simple polarity reversal to the motor, controlled by the switch. Push switch one way motor turns one way and window goes up. Push switch the other way motor turns other direction and window goes down. No sensing of window fully closed or fully open or anything caught in the window. You take your finger off the switch when the window is fully open or fully closed, if you dont you are trying to stall the motor, but the relay contacts can cope with this surge current and worst case is you blow the fuse, so a low amp fuse protects the motors if stalled.

Hope this explains it
