Hi guys, as the title states I bought a cupra r two weeks ago and all was well till it started to leak slightly, its been leaking slightly for the last week and is getting worse I think. The temperature light went off 3 nights ago so I topped up with more coolant and the light went off again last night.

I went to get the car checked by a German specialist in Glasgow and their verdict was the water pump is on its way out however the pump was replaced November 2014 (Gates Water Pump). I've had a look at where the leak is coming from and looks to be from the radiator at the front of the car.

What's the possibility of the radiator being being the cause and not the water pump?

Thanks.

have you checked the coolant neck on the side of the block? these are prone to perish and are cheap (normally crack underneath just run your hand under when its cold and feel for coolant etc)

Thanks for the reply, are you taking about the coolant reservoir tank?
It has quite a small neck?

Thanks.

I had the same problem on mine but it was from the coolant housing where the coolant temp switch is only cost £13 all I'm from seat bare in mind took nearly 5-6weeks to come but worth the wait

as above thats where im talking about.. its on the right hand side as you look at the block

it may only be leaking under pressure, check the top of the gearbox and also the side of the block below it for staining off the coolant

Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated. I will have a look tomorrow during the daylight. I've put a piece of cardboard under my car for about 6 hours and there are water leaks coming from the passenger side of the car.

When I went to get it checked the mechanic said there was a leak defiantly coming from the water pump side but there hast hasn't been any coming from that side (assuming the water pump is on the other side of the engine bay beside the timing belt).

Would you guys think it's alright to drive for the next few days?

Sorry for the all the questions, my first turbocharged car lol.

Thanks again guys.

im guessing it's the plastic part Ive pictured as its the only culprit!!!

In the morning go to your car and grab the bottom radiator hose and squeeze it a couple of times you can hear it sucking in air if it's that part that's how I found out my leak!!!

If you need the seat part number let me no and I'll dig the invoice out

And as azza says it's a common fault even my new part felt cheap as hell and it was main dealer I'm just guessing it's a design fault can't blame the Spanish tho with all the sun and sangria flowing lol
