Got an Altea 1.9 TDi Stylance from new (July 06).
Noticed the other day when checking the oil that there is some sort of mould starting to appear around the outer edges of the under bonnet insulation material.
Nothing appears wet or leaking but guess it is is hard to tell? Question is does anyone else have this problem, is it to be expected in a car only 18 months old? Is it worth getting in touch with the dealer and getting it fixed under warranty if it is classed as a warranty item? Any comments / help appreciated.
Thanks

This is a common problem with the Altea, mine had mould growing on the insulation but only a small amount. I know others have experienced this to a more or lesser degree and have also had the lining replaced under warrenty in some cases where it was so bad.

Try spraying some detol domestic cleaner on the effected area and give it a rub this seemed to stop the spread on my Altea.

Hi Hobbit, I have 56 (06) and having checked the fluids etc yesterday I noticed the same. Again, no signs of leakage, so have put it down to poor ventilation of the engine bay. Could be condensation build up from warm engine/cold bonnet. Not unduly concerned though.

I wonder what our German friends have to say on this... Klawit... they seem to have everything under control. I've got the dreaded fungal infection on mine but since I live in outer London not as bad as elsewhere I reckon... moss growing on the roof thing. Dirty air, less fungi about.

I hadn't thought about detol ;).

The question is, is whether it's rottening the material away or just an outter trace. True what Aceman says we have talked about it here over the years.
