Hello!

Well after a 300 mile round trip from Gateshead to Westgate Seat in Grimsby, in horrible wet conditions 'perfect' to inspect and drive a car you have never seen before (boat would have been better!) I am now the proud new owner of a 2010 Cupra!

Furia Grey, 44k on the clock, FSH, Seat Approved Used, 12 month warranty etc.
Stock as far as I can tell baring a dealer fitted Kenwood DNX520VBT headunit - which is a nice little bonus.

Here it be, just arrived home:

Given I have had to keep a 'sensible' head on for the last 13 years with a 206 Hdi 2.0 D-turbo (90hp) its somewhat of a upgrade, so I will probably resist the remap temptation for as long as possible, while my wallet recovers and my missus realises this isnt necessarily the sensible 5-door she first thought it was :D

Some of you might remember me from this thread
TLDR: FR TDi test drive threw a limp home error, asked for help, petrol suggested, had rethink :D

I gotta say a massive shout to James at Westgate Seat. From my initial phone call, discussing the condition of the car, the deal, my PX, the fact everything was sorted before my trip today baring the test drive, he has been awesome. Just as he described it, no wasted journey to be had, and even a massive bunch of flowers for my missus.

I had read on here they were a sound dealership, and i will certainly be adding my experience to their positive feedback.

Holy hell guys, I just realised im buzzing. Ive not grinned behind the wheel like I have today since my old RS Turbo days, and the occasional thrashing, I mean driving my dads Evo X when I visit them down in Devon. The 206 never did me wrong in 13 years, but I think Im gonna like this Cupra era :)

Au revoir mon chéri

Thanks for reading:coolthumb

Fantastic looking motor mate, well done! Glad you went with the Cupra in the end, better suited to you needs If I remember correctly.

Hope you get many happy miles out of her, she is a beauty!

Thanks. You know if that EML hadnt come on with the Tdi, I probably would have bought it on the day. Questioning the fault led to questioning whether derv was even the right choice and the good folks of this forum led to make that decision.

I must say even doing a flat 70 I was lucky to see much over 30mpg, but Im pretty sure I will get over the decreased economy :)

Lmao yeah mate washy

If you don't want to offer me some bum fun, I'll do it for nothing because I am kind like that

I see from your posts you are a true gentleman :D

I'm not local, come from Devon, worked in Durham House for a few years, met the missus, blah blah 13 years later im still here, working in Newcastle doing cool stuff, living in Gatesy and despite all this, the punters in the Galleries never cease to amaze me :D

Despite a monsoon following me up and down the country, plus a massive jam on the A1, I loved every minute of it. Im pretty sure I will love drier, quieter roads even more [B)]

Didnt like the numbers the MFD was telling me though :)

It's a totally different story in the dry!

Just need to learn to not floor it and gradually put ya foot down in the wet :p

Hahah yeah the mpg if crap but worth it

Must say it felt very planted and positive even in very waterlogged motorway. Very impressed. It has Bridgestone rubber.
Would be interested to get the power output measured so I know where it is before I start trying to find reasons to not have a remap :)

2nd that, tyres dramatically change the car! Get some proper rubber when you can and you'll see less traction loss, especially in the wet.

Don't forget that the engine thrives on proper fuel too, most people use Vpower or 99momentum.

The MPG is not bad considering what the car can do. It can cruise and get high 30's if you are very careful.

.......highest i have seen is 30.

But have you ever tried hypermiling, or would that be a waste of a Cupra? :p

Granted it is no fun and really not worth it, although I have got 38mpg out of my FR on a long motorway crawl. The tank had to last the way home for various reasons so no choice.

I wouldn't suggest aiming for high mpg day to day, if you need mpg buy a 1.2tsi, but if you need to make a one off log trip when cash is low, it can help!

Lol it's an FR tho, u really can't compare that to a cupra!

Even an FR at stage 1, it's still different as its got a k03 so it's never gna be a direct comparison lol

I think I managed 31mpg on a motorway trip but I did boot it a few times like

I know it is not exactly the same, but the mpg is about the same. Day to day 28ish boot it leads to 20mpg and carefull driving can achieve 35. In fact, I think it is also much the same as the 150bhp 2.0FSI, thst seems to hover around 30mpg.

At a steady speed on the motorway the turbo isn't doing much at all.

It is all academic anyway, I'm sure in the right hands and in the right conditions a Cupra could do the same as an FR. When you got your 31, was that at a steady speed, aircon off, very measured throttle inputs and coasting where possible?

Edit: let's not derail this poor chaps thread. In summary, I seem to think it is possible to get more mpg than other do. Either I'm wrong or I'm able to get higher mpg than betty. Both equally likely is suppose!
