New Car Bedding In Info / Help Please

I've had 14-15 new cars, run them all in using exactly the same technique and never had even the smallest issue.

Once it's warm you can do what you like with it. Obviously don't rev it to the red line in every gear all day long and don't practice your Santa Pod launch technique but really once it's warm it'll be fine.

I've had a few cars too and have never been gently gently on the run in. Never had one break and all have performed very well. Engine tolerances are so much better nowadays - couldn't have done it with an old Ford Kent engine for instance!

The consumption dropped significantly after the first 1000 miles, from low 30s to 40s mpg; so something must be going on in the initial bedding process...

I was specially careful with the Leon in the first couple thousand miles as I had engine problems with my last car. Yet last weekend I drove the 1.2 TSI for the first time in S mode (I have the SE DSG model) and it was a lot of fun seeing how the car handled briskly (although a bit louder with the higher revs) on the back roads of Aberdeen. I didn't monitor consumption as it was a short trip but the engine is quite nice.

Having said that, I do miss the oomph of the 1.4 TSI. Too bad it was not available with a DSG.
