Hi everyone. :D

Hoping someone here has experienced the same.

I started up this morning, my god it was cold!! lol Then the trip comp 'bing'd' to tell me it was 4 degrees!

Nice!!

Now't odd yet but as the journey went on it got colder.

This was when it started...............

When I pulled up at lights, junctions etc and just idling a new, strange and concerning sound started. The sound was like a throbbing. Um, maybe the sound of one of those exhausts you get on a numpties Saxo!!! lol It wasn't very loud but it was noticeable.

The sound only happened or was only noticeable when ticking over. I wasn't aware of it when moving.

Now maybe it's an coincidence but i'm assuming it's temperature related. Colleagues at work suggested it was a pump of some sort to warm the diesel???!!!

Can anyone here help or offer advice. I'm wondering if it's something more sinister.

Thanks for reading my ramblings and please accept my apologies if you own a boy racer saxo! lol

Cheers

Andy

i too had a humming kinda noise, sounded like it was hunting on idle....i dug a bit and learnt that some new engines in other marques of cars have self learning injectors for the diesel engines, so that may be what i heard, not sure on yours though....

mine was a kinda feint humming noise...and it was also when i pulled up to a halt.

Just a quick update.

I've noticed this noise is only happening when the heating/fan system is switched on and thats at a high setting. I'm more and more convinced it's related to this.

I do wonder if this is the same noise others are posting about? I notice a few posts mention noises from the heating/fan/aircon system.

Just a thought anyway.

A different diesel engine noise query... (btw. I love the roar the 1.6tdi makes when it gets revved up, doesn't sound like a diesel to me)
but.
in petrols i've driven, when you hit the rev limiter, the engine revs just bounce frantically.
On the odd occasion my car's hit the rev limiter (tends to be when botting it out of a roundabout and i forget that i've only got 4,500 rpm to play with), it makes a godawful bang noise , sounds like the engine is about to drop out of the car and scares the living daylights out of me.
Is this normal for a diesel or is there something wrong with my engine?

all the power is lower down the rev range in a deisel ;)
you should have changed gear way before 4000rpm, if not 3500rpm for maximum pull / acceleration!;)
