Hello all, I'm Fionn (pronounced 'Fin'). New member from Edinburgh. Happy new year!

I'm actually fairly new to driving overall - only got my license at 27 and got my first car at 30 (last March). It was a first-gen Citroen C3 which claimed a whopping 72bhp but was probably getting considerably less due to a manifold leak and generally lacklustre care over the years. She only cost me 700 quid so I wasnt complaining, and I've done 11,000 miles in her since.

Yesterday, however, I got myself a Mk1 Leon Cupra R which has all sorts of additional bits and bobs - aftermarket exhaust system, front mount intercooler, shortshifter (yikes), remap etc etc... The previous owner claims it gets 260-280hp to the wheels. Quite the upgrade.

I've not even driven it yet, supposed to be picking it up today (the track rod end is being replaced).

It's got 142k on the clock which meant my hopes weren't too high when I went to view it, but it's immaculately looked after as far as I can tell, and starts and runs perfectly. I guess I'll just have to see how she goes :giggle:

If anybody who sees this has any general advice (regarding driving style, maintenance, anything really) for someone graduating from a weak naturally aspirated mum car to an aggressive boosted hothatch, it would be very much appreciated.

I'm really looking forward to getting involved in the community and learning more about my new car!

Hi and welcome to the forum. All I would say is did they get the tracking done after replacing the track rod end? Ideally this needs doing when replacing a rod end.

Holy #$@%! That's a hell of a step up! Fair play 👍

Advice? Make sure you have the best tyres you can get and take it easy till you get used to it.

Welcome to the site
Thanks mate! Gonna take it super-easy at first - traction control on!! The guy I've bought it off has recently put new tyres on it. Yokohama brand (idk the specifics) with a meaty tread on them, so should be all good on that front! Thanks for the advice :giggle:

Hey, thanks for the advice! The previous owner's still got it (he couldn't get the part on Saturday) but yeah, he's doing the alignment after replacing the track rod end. Picking it up at 6pm this evening. He works at an autoshop which is handy ;)
