New owner questions

Hi,

I’ve been driving our mk3 Leon FR ST 1.4 150 DSG for a couple of weeks now and have a few queries…

It’s an early 2017 model, so the fuel rail recall-not-recall is a bit of a worry. I presume I can’t do anything to prevent it other than paying Seat circa £600 to rectify? (I have neither knowledge/expertise/time etc to tackle myself!)

There is a small cubby hole by the drivers right knee which keeps falling open - looks like it was once held closed by adhesive magnets - is this how it’s meant to be so I can just superglue the magnets back on?

Car mats - Driveden for example don’t differentiate between 5-door hatch and estate, so do they fit both?

Range display - to see how many miles (ish) left in fuel can it be displayed on the drivers info screen? The only place I’ve found is on the central screen within ‘Vehicle’.

It was serviced March 2021 using long life oil so next due March 2023 - would it be wise to service earlier as I’m not familiar with this type of long life servicing? I normally do less than 8k annually.

Thanks in advance for any answers/advice - I’ve always found forums to be a wealth of knowledge and have be plundering the archives of this one already :)

Can’t answer the query about the fuel rail, but if not called in for work, then assume that it doesn’t require it as a safety recall.

The cubby hole (coin holder on most VAG cars) is held in by a cam on either side of the cubby. There are 3 rubber stops, but these are to prevent vibration.

Floorpan between 5 dr and ST estate are the same, so mats are universal. Also, the same as Golf Mk7 (the OEM rubber mats are labelled Golf 7/Seat Leon).

Range display is possible. 2017 is an odd year - is you car pre-face lift, face lift, analogue dash or digital dash? Should be possible with all. Using the L or R arrows on the steering wheel toggle until driving data is shown and the scroll down using the wheel to option called range. If range is not displayed then you may need to activate it from the main infotainment screen (this differs between the options described above).

Servicing is subjective. Longlife oil is used regardless of the regime (annual/longlife) that the vehicle is on. On MQB cars (which yours is) the inspection service and the oil service have been split and there is a lot of time based and/or out of phase maintenance, so you can’t actually go 2 years between services, so longlife only comes into play if driving 18000+ miles per year. So a long story short, if you intend to keep the car for a while, annual minor/major servicing is probably better in the longer term.

Regarding the 'fuel rail' query;
The issue I believe was only with the mounting bolts - and their correct/incorrect torque during manufacture. If you're worried it would/should be cheap to just buy some new bolts and torque them up correctly - or get a good indy to do it for you.
More expensive fix after its started leaking due to having to change seals.

Thank you for the replies!

Will ask at Indy for fuel rail bolts price.

The coin holder is held in by the two cams, but nothing there to hold it in the closed position (other than previous owners ?diy magnets) - so if I put anything in there heavier than a flump it falls open 😕

Range display - sorry I should have asked can I display this on the DIS in any of the 4 corners (currently showing time, trip, odometer and gear) or are these not customiseable?
(The rev counter and speedo are analogue while engine temp and fuel guage are digital. The DIS doesn’t look like the one in the photo, not sure if it’s facelift or not - how do I tell?)

Thanks once again 👍

In terms of the range display, it will not be possible to put it in one of the corners of the DIS. It will display in a similar fashion to the photo I posted (I have a digital dash which is obviously more customisable than the analogue dash - eg range is displayed in the speedo on the RHS of the dash).

Easiest way to tell if the car is pre-FL or FL is to look at the front lights (if LED). Pre-FL there is a separate LED indicator bulb. On the FL cars, the daytime running light switches to orange when the indicator is activated.

It looks like this

I think the indicator repeats in place of the drl. The car has the radar on the front grille and larger centre but dash is as above do not sure if FL

I’ve superglued the magnet onto the coin holder as it kept falling open.

Thanks once again 👍
