Hi all
Im new to the forum coming and looking to buy a seat buy a seat 1.4tsi twin charger . Im a forum member on ukmkivs and owning a mk4 golf 1.8t. Im looking for advice before making my decision and im sure your guys well help.
Looking at 1.4tsi there are 2 types 150bhp and the 178bhp bocanegra . What are the difference between the engines or is it just software . I now sometimes they may upgrade things like internals of the engine or bigger turbo prime example 1.8t agu vs aum ect.
the dsg gives me concern i have read horrow stories which puts me of slightly.what are they like and cost to replacement of the clutch.
If i do buy one once i test drive one of course i will look to get it a remap but what are the power increase and should i upgrade the clutch(1.8t is remapped 197bhp and 251lbs of torque) i love the power of my 1.8t.
whats is the real world mpg like?
I have looked about the price of thr tax im i right in saying the tax is £120 a year because my golf is is £145 6months or £270 a year.

I have done some research the last 2 weeks but thought i would get owners advice aswell.

Any help will be great

The question is - are you feeling lucky? You could buy one and have no problems, lots of mpg, cheap tax/insurance, big performance; or the engine/box could blow leaving you with bills that make the national dept look like loose change. Well punk, do you feel lucky? ( my bill for parts so far - 10K+, I love it when it does work though!)

For the love of god by one with a warranty or buy an aftermarket one. Some a really reliable but if you find a duff one it will spend all its life in the garage.

Dont get me wrong if you get a good one they are fantastic cars.

Right well im going to get another gti i think then . My
1.8t had been brilliant the thing is bullet proof. But this doesnt sound good at all

Piston cracked, turbo cracked, injectors failed, plugs failed, brakes overheat, ECU fault codes, + loads of uprated parts fitted because things like exhaust/dampers so crap. But it does 42mpg driving to work and 0 to 100 in 13 seconds, and I would have to spend 45K+ to replace it with something new that was as good from the factory.

That does not sound good at all . Sorry to hear that mate feel for you. Was the car not under warranty

Is your car not heavily tuned though (just for balance sake I know the engine is problematic)

I had early software which was quite aggressive, backed off now. Plenty of standard engines have failed. Seat didn't test it properly before release. Why else would there be a new version of this engine. Still love it, when it works.

Ibizaracebrake is a bad example, hes modded his very far. Mines been completely stock and so far has used very little oil and hasnt had many issues. I chose an 11 plate car with battery in the boot and spent ages finding a good one. If you look at how many are about vs the amount with faults its very small.

Id go for it and enjoy the little bonkers car.

My FR is a 59 plate so effectively first generation and have to say I've been very lucky as I've never had any oil issues whatsoever even after a 922 mile trip to see my sister in Scotland and back it looked as though I never used a drop. Bottom line is they are cracking cars even my lower powered FR but it can be a lucky dip/minefield with these engines but as Matt has also said being a forum you'll always hear more about them going wrong than with those running fine
