Newbie. 1.9 Tdi Ibiza questions

Hi all. It's looking likely that i will be purchasing my first Seat in the very near future and i just wanted to ask a few questions before i go through with it. I currently own a mk3 Golf 1.9 Tdi.

1) Will the coilovers from my golf swap straight over to the ibiza? Or is there any way to make them fit by changing top mounts etc.?

2) Is the 90 tdi engine in the golf the same as the 90 tdi ibiza. Can i swap over my egr delete and keep other bits as spare?

3) Is it recommended that i get an ECU remap (found one on ebay for £120) or will one of the cheap boxes that plug into your injector pump do just as good a job?

4) What is the best way forward for installation of a bigger intercooler?

5) How many pictures of the golf would you like when it gets turned into a cube? :)

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Ha, I just went the other way, I had the cordy with the Mk3 ibiza front end and have put my engine into the Mk4 golf. It depends what engine you get in the ibiza and what engin e you have in the golf. There's the early tdis AHU/1Z/AFN then the updated ones ALH/AGR/ASV etc then you're onto the PD ones AJM/ARL etc then finally now it's the common rail jobbies. Your coilies wont fit though, the ibiza is a completely different platform. They might fit the leon if it's a Mk4 golf you have. ECU remap would be the best but no idea wether the one you're looking at would work, some of the tdi's are waste gate turbo and some are vnt and they all have different sensors too so it would have to be a compatible ecu to run what ever csr you get.

Welcome to the forum.

Shame about the coilovers. Just have to sell them and fund myself a budget set or some lowering springs for the time being.

The car i'm going for is the non-facelift mk2 1.9 so hopefully should be the same engine (AHU i think)

Company i've got the price on the remap for takes my existing ECU and remaps that so i don't suppose model matters on that front.

@mk4cupra Can you recommend a particular intercooler for front mounting. I was considering a Discovery TD5 one mounted in front of the rad as it's long but thin?

to behonest any intercooler would do the job to behoenst you might want to put a post up asking other people what they would serjests best due to I have the cupra which comes standerd with a front mount the best advice would come from those with the ibiza pd130s as they fit front monts a lot

regarding the coilovers mate< ive just bought a set and on the box it said golf mk3 vr6! ive questioned it to death and its seems that they ARE compatible with a mk2. ive even matched them up with a used set of coilovers that i know are off a mk2 biza and size, dimensions are all the same.

Ha that's nuts, imagine the coilies from a Mk3 golf (heavy car) fitting a Mk2 ibiza? I would never have suspected that. Anyway your ecu is fairly good for a map, the chips just plug in on that one.

They're practically the same though aren't they? Might have a different ecu but I'm sort of sure ish that they're the same lol.

That is exactly what i wanted to hear! :D Bloke next door to me has an inca van and he had the wheel off it yesterday for something. Shocks certainly looked the same.

They'll be coming off the golf either way so i suppose i can try them on the mk2 for size

Is the weight difference between the golf and ibiza tdis really that great?

pre-facelift ibiza might have a 1Z engine, not the AHU, so watch out for that. They look very similar too

Done a little research and there appear to be a vast difference between the 1Z and AHU engines. Different pistons, rings, oil jets. Also something about a fifth injector in the cat to improve emissions? Which makes little to no sense to me.

That'll be for the americans and their insane emission laws, I think it's mostly calafornia, read it on the tdiclub a lot.

As for weight I think the Mk3 golf is a fairly heavy beast and that's one of the reasons the gti wasn't as good as the Mk1 and Mk2.

Mk3 golf comes in at roughly a tonne. Perhaps more for the tdi. Anyone with precise Ibiza weights? May go some way to explain why i've been told the ibiza tdi goes well.
