The easiest way I have found is to see if it will pull 5000rpm in 3rd, remapped pd's dont usually have a problem doing this. Standard they will not, but it will depend on the map/power output if its been done, mine will pull 5000rpm in fifth!

i find it loses pull about 3500 then have to go up another gear for it to pull hard again

had car scanned today and its come up with the p1557 turbo overboost problem, ive been reading about and if it has been remapped would it have needed a new maf sensor putting on because its the standard one on it, would it be worth buying a 3 bar maf sensor?

Confusion, mate. You're confusing a MAF sensor (Mass Air Flow) with a MAP sensor (Manifold Absolute Pressure).

A MAF sensor sits in the air intake before the turbo, and measures the amount of air coming into the engine intake, then the ECU reads this and adds fuel accordingly to give the correct fuel air ratio.

A MAP sensor sits in the boost pipework after the turbo and tells the ECU how much boost the turbo is producing so that the ECU can control the boost.

If you've got an overboost situation then your MAF could well be fine.

Edit: Sorry, forgot to tell you what to do now.

Given your fault code reading then I suggest you try and find a local tuner to reinstall a stock map to your car and see if it's actually been remapped or not. It could be a similar problem to the thread you've been reading, but you don't know yet if you have a mapped ecu or not. Take it back to stock and cure the fault (if it's still there) then see about remapping it again if you feel the need.

Your insurance company will like to know if it is remapped or not, as your insurance can be invalidated if it is and you don't tell them.

well when i accelerate hard in 6th gear it goes into limp mode, it was popping the intercooler pipes off etc but now it just puts it into limp mode and the mpg calculator all messes up and then it is delayed reaction time for about 50 mile or so.

car has had a close inspection and its popping the intercooler pipe half out, the one behind the headlight, it has snapped the metal lug off so guna have to get a new one, could this be causing car to overboost?

No, the overboost will be causing the pipe to pop off (other way round). The intercooler pipework can cope with standard pressure, but when it starts overboosting the clips fail and off it comes under pressure.

i understadn that but the metal lug has broke off due to someone forcing it in wrong before, so because the pipe is leaking under pressure would this cause the overboost?

no how can a boost leak then cause an overboost! he is saying the pipework that is currently on the car cannot cope

because surely the sensor after the pipe that is off saying to the ecu there not enough boost so it gives it more boost

from what i have read the postas , a boost leak will give you less pressure , a mapped ecu would request more boost than std , so its boosting too hard causing the crap pipework ( Vag designed ) to blow off , and because someone butchered it before , its making it easier to pop off so to speak ,

its that right angle bit of pipe the metal bit on the end with the lugs on, i know this is a bodge job but could i just screw it together to keep it in?

its number 4, the one that goes onto the intercooler, would it work if i took intercooler off and screwed it together?
