Unfortunately with FWD it does understeer. You can
help things with an uprated front ARB, and if you feel confident controlling via lift off oversteer that can add some fun.
There are normally some forum trips to tracks - at least a couple a year. The next one planned is to the BHP show at Lydden Hill near Dover, which I appreciate isn't too handy for Shropshire. Details are normally posted in the 'Other Events' section. There is also a sticky in there with some beginners trackday advice which should
help you out.
For an airfield day you will be paying around £100 or so; likewise for a track in the winter when demand is lower. Summer you can be paying £150 - £200 for a day, or even up to £400 for access to something like the full GP circuit at Silverstone or Brands Hatch. It's normally the case the earlier you book, the cheaper you get it. If you just fancy a taster, then some of the shows - such as BHP at Lydden Hill or Eurofest or the VW Audi Track day at Castle Combe allow you to buy single 15 minute slots for around £30 a pop. Just need to be a bit wary as some of these (esp. Eurofest at Combe) have a bit of a reputation for have a go heroes.
I've done at least 25 track days over the past 6 years or so, and I've been to:
Castle Combe (Wiltshire);
Goodwood (Sussex)
Lydden Hill (Kent)
Brands Hatch (Kent)
Bedford Autodrome (Bedfordshire)
Snetterton (Norfolk)
RAF Marham (Norfolk)
Donington Park (Derbyshire)
Cadwell Park (Lincolnshire)
They are a great way to really understand the handling and dynamics of your car. It's all well and good knowing the theory of oversteer, understeer, spins etc, but in my opinion you can only reprogramme your natural instincts on what to do in those situations through experience. And where better to get that on a track.
